Is anyone else getting really, really bad singleplayer lag/stuttering after 1.5?

I just updated to 1.5_1 a couple days ago, and... Holy crap. About every 5-10 seconds, I get a big lag spike and freeze up for anywhere from 1-3 seconds. It's almost unbearable. Setting the graphics to the absolute bare minimum does nothing for me at all, not that I should need to. I'm pretty sure my -brand new- month old PC with 6GBs of RAM and a top of the line ATI card out of the box is more than capable of handling Minecraft. Especially since it's a new world and I haven't explored beyond the first chunk yet.

It might not actually be Minecraft or your comp causing the lag, I was gettin some bad lag and frequent crashes aswell and all i done was installed the 64 bit version of Java and now it hanst crashed or lagged.

I had a very similar experience, but I mentioned it and nobody else seemed to be having the same issues. I just attributed it to the fact that I was playing on a mac.

Hidden under a floating house is a stack of my treasure. If you find it, I will give you all of my treasure.

You will know it's the treasure, as it will have a sign saying it's my treasure. Hunt around for some clues I will place in strategic locals for further information.

The lag hasn't effected me in singleplayer and I'm playing on a macbook. I would just reccomend installing the new java stuff.

What is the new java stuff and how do you know if you have it or not?

You should get a notice to update it. If not pop over to the java website and it'll tell you if you have.

This thing is a monstrosity. The "baloon" is about 5 times smaller than the wood it's "holding" up.
it's basically yogscast's celaeno airship, but with a huge tower on it.

I built something similar in another multi game. Keep in mind that you're blocking the sun for the people right below you. So try not to make it too big, or you might receive some complains.

Unless you're building it above an uninhabited piece of land, of course.

its over water, so blocking light under it isnt a problem from a mob spawning perspective... Unless someone builds under it.

Also halo, you need to stop building these eye sores and what not then telling other people to deal with them when you abandon them and they get in the way. Clean up your own mess.

Hm. Tried installing the latest version of Java 64. Nothing different. Still this intolerable lag, no matter what the settings are. And I'm not playing it on the browser client. I have the downloaded version.

As an aside, has anyone else ever had their Java settings menu look all cloudy? Like you're looking at it through frosted glass?

So I havn't posted about my singleplayer in a few days and in this time it got accidently deleted. :(

On my new world I have tiny flat piece of land in the middle of a lake/ocean. My plan is to make a giant treehouse which will be almost entirely of leaves. The floors, walls, ceiling and staircases are to be made of leaves, it's gonna be a bit tricky.

I'm also going to require a lot of bonemeal but i'm crap at fighting so some tips on how to fight skeletons would be apreciated.

to fight skeletons here's a few tips:
in 1vs1 strafe sideways getting closer, whacking repeatedly.
in 1vs2+ run to the hills/get one to shoot the other (get them in line)
or if you're in a cavve, dig 1 block down and hit thier legs.
