Would it make much sense for there to be a codex for the minor races in 40k?

That would be an interesting idea, just a small codex for a handful of little races with tiny empires that are a thorn in the side of the larger races that don't have time to worry about the little ones. I don't know if Games Workshop would go for that though. They all ready have tau with a small empire. Neat idea though, I must say.

I would like to see a codex "Armies of Man," or something akin to that. It's basic premise would be to simply have rules for the non-Imperial humans. You would have the option of making a higher-tech force, or a lower tech force. Core troops superior to Space Marines or troops inferior to Guardsmen (zealous militia forces with "laspistols" and clubs).

It wouldn't even have to be an official army, something like Chapter Approved (why did GW discontinue that?!). You could use those rules to proxy aliens, random IG builds, Adeptus Mechanicus, "Super Space Marines," Inquisition forces, mutants, etc... Anything you could dream up. A simple codex of fifteen or so different units with a half dozen options a piece. Don't even have to release a market line of models, just the codex for people to play with, something usable (maybe not even allow it in official tournaments). People could have their Squats, Robots, Red Orks, aliens, and all the other fringe forces mentioned in fluff but with no rules.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

I just hope Kroot have a bigger place in the next Tau codex with a viable way to play an all Kroot army. Other than that . . . Hrud maybe . . .

The fact that mainstream armies get gimped, I doubt a small codex would do much. Codex Assassins was a long time ago....

Dark Mechanicus. There, I said it.

EDIT: Upon reflection, what I stated here may not make much sense in context, so I shall attempt to reiterate. The Dark Mech are a faction I feel deserve a codex, but are considered by many to be to small a faction to warrant any real attention. Thus, I agree with your idea, on the 'condition' that the DarkMech were included.

If only GW had business sense. A small PDF codex would't be too difficult to produce. If it was semi official like FW or the WD optional rules. There are enough box sets for players to be able to make their own, models from existing kits. They don't need to release new models and they could make people buy the old models again.

Something allowing people to play the non standard humanoid forces would be great. Just make the choices generic, with the option to buy lots of upgrades. Start of with a basic guy with a guardman's stats and no armour and weapons then just buy armour weapons or other skills.
