I seen this video and I think that this is BS..

I think 1) its chessy & 2) unsporting & 3) unfluffy. But is it RAW?

I would say it is not since you can not flame friendly units, including the unit that is doing the flaming.

This guy is an idiot. A model is hit when part of it's base is under the template. The model firing the flamer is not normally hit because the flame template is set touching the edge of your base not over it. When you set it to the back of your base and have it the other way you are now going over your base and hitting a friendly unit.

here you go where pink is the terminator, blue necrons, green flamer.

Basically you can't hit all 3 by doing things the normal way, so shoot from the back?

Personally just PLAY YOUR MOVES BETTER !

Still with people spouting this it worries me... I sense a disturbance in the astrominicon..

The guy in the video is full of it. No, you do not place the tip of the template against the back edge of the base of the firing model and shoot across the firing model so as to shorten the template and bring the wide end of he template closer to the fring model.

Me too. Everyone knows only Gwar! is always right!
From what I understand, he is trying to say this:

is legal.

And if he is, What the FETH is he smoking and where can I buy 7 lifetimes worth?

Edit: Just saw Phototoxin's post. Yes, this guy is clearly high on something. That is in no way, shape or form legal, and I have a sneaking suspicion it hasn't been since 40k was first invented.

IIRC G (can I call you G Gwar?) you used to have to place it from the weapon... this was when people could be set on fire and then you had your squad-mate forgo shooting to give you a +1 on the 'put it out' chart.

No, you must call me Super Kami Guru Gwar the Fifteenth, Ruler of the Galaxverse.

Or whatever, I don't care.

Iirc that the only 40k-mythos game that GW have let you flame your own doods is Spess Hulk with the Blud Angles Heavy Flamer, but I am not 100% on that.

Yeah, it's been a while since I've played space hulk but IIRC the flamer hits a room or hall and if your own guys are there it's too bad for them.

He tries that kind of crap all the time, and personally I think that Beasts of War should stop having him on because he is giving bad players more bad ideas. I remember I saw him once arguing that if you equip a Space Marine with a Storm Bolter and a Lightning Claw, that the Lightning claw allows you to reroll wounds you made with the Storm Bolter. That is a guy that I don't want to play against because he is going to suck all of the fun out of the game.

On a side note, it's still legal to place the template on the side of the base as long as it's not going over the base itself right?

Wait, as much as this sounds like bs, this dude makes a completely valid point.

It must be touching the base. Technically that means the model always counts as burning its self (and now get ready for the flinch-worthy stuff up of the rules) and I was under the impression that you ignore your own unit for all intents and purposes of shooting?

Feel free to set me on fire...from behind yourself...

You can touch the template to the edge of a model's base and not have it be 'partially under the template' quite easily.

Incorrect. Touching is not the same as under. Models Touching the template are not hit, only models fully or partially under the template are hit. Different words for a reason.

But Gwar!, doesn't physics tell us that two things can never actually touch because of the electromagnetic force? How would this translate into RAW?

I agree with the video being horribly wrong though. Seems like everything people come up with these days as "tactics" is just really really desperate shenanigans that either butcher the rules or aren't effective. I'll stick with my strategy, named "the point railguns at it strategem".

RaW is written in Colloquial English, not Quantum Physics English. While the atoms will not physically (no pun intended) touch due to the nature of Electrons and their charge repelling the atoms apart (with enough energy one can make them "touch", which is what happens in a chemical reaction), in a colloquial sense, touching would be placing the template in a way so that none of the base is UNDER the template but rather is touching the edge of the template and nothing more.
