Can someone please shed some light on which base sizes are the correct ones (and I mean the smallest acceptable, as apparently in tournaments you are free to pick a larger base but not a smaller one) for the following Tyranid units?
The parasite of Mortrex
Mycetic spore
Harpy
Tervigon

I couldn't find anything, so if there's a general rule I ignore please forgive me, and if possible please point me to the official source.
Thanks.

Normally the base they come with is the normal base.

Iv never heard about base issues for a tournament before, the only problem i could think of are bases that affect the TLOS.

But other than that just use the bases they come with, i always have lol.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

That's why I'm asking for units which "do not come" at all.
You can't go to GW or any other shop and buy the model for one of the units I mentioned, simply because there isn't any.
Those units however are described in the codex.

Ah i see what you mean, im not a tyranid player.

But generally any base to keep it steady should work.

I could be wrong so may have to wait for others to reply.

Generally I try to keep the base of the model that my conversion is based off of. If your tervigon starts as a carnifex, use the carnifex base.

I don't know about tournament legal though.

I believe the parasite of mortrex is supposed to be a modified shrike, so i would say a 40mm base (size that warriors come on). As for the spore pod it really doesn't have a base but for fair play I would say the size of a marine drop pod (since its the same concept). I would say what ever size base the FW harridan uses or a valkyrie base. Tervigon is going to be a 60mm base since its a MC (carnifex/hive tyrant base).

Since there are no official models for these units, this is just my $.02. But I am a Nid player and from the fluff and other codex entries these should be what they should be.

Now of course these should be minimum base sizes you can go larger is the model needs more base to sit on.

Makes sense, that's what I do. I don't see how people can argue with your base size being wrong anyways as long as you don't make it ridiculously large or to small for it to fit on.

GENERATION 10: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I was thinking the same, to be sincere I was more puzzled about the parasite and the harpy, maybe the 60mm for the parasite and http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470008a&prodId=prod1900001 for the harpy (I don't know exactly how big this one is)?

The general concensus I've understood is:

Things with 6 wounds (Trygon, Mawloc, Tervigon, Tyrannofex) go on the big oval base.

All other MCs go on the 60mm base (Harpy, Swarmlord).

Anything that isn't monstrous goes on the 40mm base (Doom, Parasite) or the creature it is based on (Ymgarl).

The GW example models have shown the Tervigon on a large oval base and a Doom on a 40mm base. Nothing else, really.

Just use a base size that fits the model well and "looks" right, like all the feet fit on and there's a nice amt of space on the bottom without being huge. If you do that and your opponent complains about the base size of a model that doesn't exist, you should try and find someone nicer to play against

@Absolutionis: The Swarmlord is described as being monumentally bigger than a Hive tyrant in the dex, I would say an oval base for him two and model him as one hugeass tyrant.
