Subject: 1500 pts BA jump pack for tournament

I have an upcoming tournament that I would like to use my Blood Angels.
There are two things I like about the Bangles and that is fantastic model range and jump packs, as such I am focuing on jump pack armies only for the remainder of the year.
This is to be used in a peer comped event 1st so anything that scream OMG means I will get smacked.
Astorath the Grim
Librarian - epistolary, jump pack
Honor Guard - 4x plasma guns, jump packs
Sanguinary Priest - power weapon, jump pack
10x Assault Marines - 2x melta gun, power fist
10x Assault Marines - 2x melta gun, lightening claw
5x Assault Marines - melta gun, power fist
5x Veteran Vanguard - 2x power weapon, sgt power weapon, jump packs
Comes in at a tight 1500.
I was originally going to run a 2nd priest and use a chappy, but paranoia over ss/th termies and related model types made me opt for Astorath (and he looks awesome)
I am up in the air if I should make my Vanguard sgt dual Lightening claws and fins the points by taking them off the priest power weapon, I figure I norm try to keep the priest away from the front line in the 1st assault whereas the veteran will want to be in it.
Finally a little tactics advice, should I generally deep strike all games or what would be ideal for either deployment type?

I'd drop Astorath, he is expensive and at this point level, wand with what your trying to do with the army, your better off going for numbers. The same thing is true for the Honor Guard and the Vanguard.
What I would do is run a Librarian and a Chaplin, or two Chaplins with Jump Packs. As many 10 man assult squads as I could take and enough Preists to give one to each assult squad. Then deepstrike the entire army.
Take the power weapon off of the Priest, they are never worth it. A priest is a 1 wound independant character with no invulderable sace, he is going to be killed first...

Why you taking Astrorath for? He isn't benefiting you much for his points. You want re-rolls get a Chaplain as you have the spare elite slots. Consider a Librarian with unleash rage for a HQ.
Honour Guard are ok but they move rapid fire only and cannot charge, meltaguns with a power fist would be great and Librarian can let them re-roll to hit as well
Priest doesn't need a power weap as will get singled out in c.c and will die as only a single wound, save the points.
Lightning claws aren't that cool go with power fist.
Small Assault Squad should have plasma guns and be used to hold objectives in your deployment zone, they have 24" range then which should be enough once stuff gets moving.
I'd probably drop the Vanguard as much as I like them and go flamer Assault Squad for anti horde.

Well, as said, I'd drop Astorath. He's too expensive for what he can do.
This gives you enough points for another Assault squad or a Vanguard unit.
I'd equip the VV with just one power fist.

I guess I am curious as to why you all consider Astorath to be not usefull for his points?
I would have thought his ability to give red thirst and be a good pinch hitter/support character useful? I am truly taking him for his armor save effect and secondly having FC on an outlying unit can be handy.
I should have mentioned my Liby's powers were unleash rage and shield of sanguinous.
My second question is why the VV's after landing are better off with a fist?
In my mind I figured striking at I/S 5 with 12 power attacks wold devastate most units, not leaving the sgt to hold out with his attacksafter the target unit counters?
Don't consider me rude I really am not used to using MEQ's just against them. These are what I thought would be useful needs.
I am happy suggested PW loss off the priest, I sthink a dual LC vanguard will look hot.

My second question is why the VV's after landing are better off with a fist?
VV can pick their target when they deep strike.
I'd take them to take on a tank, an MEQ squad like Tacticals, or a Dev/Havoc unit.
