That is one of the questions.
I've recently started playing my Chaos army as Space Wolves - I bet you've heard that before. I've got much of it sorted out, but there are elements in my list that I was forced to take due to what's available that I'd like to change.
The core, the part that I like is this:
Rune Priest; Chooser of the Slain, Living Lightning, Storm Caller, optionally melta bombs: 110 or 115 points.
Wolf Guard x 3; Power Fist x 3: 114 points. These guys will soon get combi-meltas, which will add 15 points.
3 x Grey Hunders x9; Melta Gun, Wolf Standard:145 each, 435 points.
2 x Rhino, Extra Armor: 50 points.
Rhino: 35 points.
Grey Hunters x 5; Melta Gun, Power Weapon: 95 points.
Grey Hunters x 5; Plasma Gun, Power Weapon: 100 points. Currently, there are only four melta guns available. I will probably model another for this squad.
2 x Razorback; TW-Lascannons: 75 points. I like las-plas; I may go that route.
That's about 1144 points.
Here's the part I like less:
Wolf Lord; Terminator Armor, Wolf Claw, Wolf Claw, Saga of the Bear, optionally Melta Bombs: 195 or 200 points. This is not a bad guy, I would rather go without Terminator armor.
Lone Wolf; Terminator Armor, Power Fist, 2 x Fenrisian Wolves: 80 points. This guy is mostly filler to get to 1850. The equipment could be changed to improve him, but in the final analysis, I think he's headed for the exit.
Wolf Guard x 4; Terminator Armor, 2 x Combi-melta, Heavy Flamer, Power Fist: 157. I just don't much like Terminators, these are no different.
Land Raider; 250 points. Loyalist 'Raiders are clearly superior to the Chaos junk, but it's still 250 points.
That's 687 points.
In addition to firming up the 1850 list, I will want to be able to play up to 'Ard Boyz level. So there are models to build!
The first, big question is;
"To Thunder or not to Thunder?"
I'm really thinking of two three-strong squads of TWC, accompanied by a TW-riding character. Does one need Lords, or will Battle Leaders do? Are TWC out of place with a list like this?
I've noticed that no one seems to run Blood Claws. I'm thinking of giving 'em a try. First I might try them as a replacement for the Wolf Guard termies. Any thoughts on this? How about equipment?
Long Fangs seem like a popular choice. Are missile launchers really the best way to go? Does any one have success with a mixed batch of weapons? Would a few lascannons hurt anything? More Razorbacks definitely appeal to me.
Scouts seem like a good idea. Infiltrators with melta weaponry aren't a hard concept to get behind. Do they really need a Wolf Guard? Should one run two squads?
People do seem to play Land Speeders. Are the flamers worth buying? The multi-melta is pretty much a no-brainer. Are two a good idea?
Back to the TWC; since this is a poser army, I'd like to keep as much as possible to Chaos models. So the TWC will be based on Juggernauts. The question then becomes;
"What do you call them?"
Juggerwolf Cavalry?
Thundernaut Cavalry?
Thunder-Jug Cavalry?
Jugs of Thunder?

Many people have done juggers the same way!
For Blood claws, they are only good with a priest imo. TWC is good on their own. some SS and other weapons can make them a killy (and expensive) unit. LF are best with launchers so that they can hit anything under AV14. a lascannon razor can fill their lascannon gap. Scouts and Speeders are good for outmaneuvering opponents. if you have points go for it

It almost seems obvious, now that you mention it. It's a bit of a modeling conundrum though.

The Claws or the Priest?
Claws just use non bearded heads
Priest is just a SW chaplain. just give a SW a funny looking power weapon or something (maybe use the stupid Wolf Helmet lol)

I will use Khorne Bezerkers for the Blood Claws. I want to put them together anyway.
A Wolf Priest that looks as if it belongs in an Iron Warriors army is a bit of a stretch. I guess they don't all have to fit the theme perfectly.
I'm realizing now why no one uses Blood Claws; ther're not worth much unless they're coming out of a Land Raider. Still, I might go ahead and slap some together.

DOH I forgot you're using Chaos!
Well I always imagined if I ever used BC and their fast attack options as chaos I would make a "in between" of Marine and Spawn
Much like the Forsaken in Fantasy. While they still are "marines" they are slipping into spawndom. While some may think this is a blessing (they get much more attacks on a charge) they quickly become less skilled and more sluggish in their agility
Priest could easily be maybe the Word Bearer Apostle that winds up in someone elses ship or something. Maybe a Khorne Follower to inspire his men. Or an Iron Warrior with special targeting equipment. Its up to you

I consider Possessed for BC, but I'm going to use them for Mark of the Wolfen. I think the 'Zerkers will do well as BC and they'll come in handy when the army reverts to Chaos.
The Wolf Priest substitute will probably just have to make do with some sort of Chaos-looking Crosius substitute. I don't know if either the BC or the Wolf Priest are really competitive enough long term, but they might be fun.
I might even finally build those winged Raptor conversions I've been thinking about for ever and give them a go as Skyclaws.

Possessed doesnt really equal having less skill/more attacks. Yea I agree though possessed=Wolfen. Lots of rending attacks

I use 15x blood claws w/ PF and a wold guard w/ PF in a LRC to great effect. Never really needed a priest as long as I didn't target super hard units ect. Most squads will be crippled too bad to strike back, if their even still on the board.

I'm going to try them out. They'll have to make do with a plain-jane 'Raider. They will probably run with the Wolf Lord/Battle Leader I just kit-bashed last night. He'll make a nice Chaos Lord when we revert; he's got a combi-melta and an axe that will be a daemon weapon. For now, it'll probably just be a power weapon or perhaps a Frost axe. In any case, he will be able to sweep, unlike my current HQ's.
