Alright so my neighbor is gone for two weeks, and has asked my brother and I to take care of his lawn and then he'll pay, us what we think is an appropriate amount. The only problem is I don't want to ask for too much otherwise I would look greedy and I don't want to ask for too little because then I would feel ripped off. So DakkaDakka what do you think is an appropriate amount (remember it's split 50/50 between my younger brother and I)?

What can happen to a piece of grass in two weeks?

I'm from Australia remember, we don't have much grass over here!

That being said, I reckon around twenty to thirty bucks a week is fair, assuming you're just going to mow it once a week?

So, 20 - 30 bucks in Canadian money equals about....half of a moosehorn each week...you still use moosehorns for money dont you?

Still do, mind you a nice shot glass of maple syrup makes a fine substitute too.

I would ask for no more then forty.

It depends on how often you plan on cutting it.
If only once a week, twenty is fair.
Twice a week, twenty to twenty five.
Three times, thirty to forty.

Oops. Didn't realise that. In that case, I would say either 1.5 it or double, if you feel you could do it.

Really? I think halving it might be better because with two of us we're essentially doing half the work and it would be a bigger money drain on him if we double it. Would 30 total for each of us sound about right?

Im sorry, it late and my brain doesn't like to work. But yeah, that's what I mean by 1.5 it.

I say pretend to go along with an even split with your brother. On the final day, do something unmeantionable and place the results in the yard, most likely underground.

Then all the profits are yours.

I'll think about it, thanks (and to other contributors too).

I agree with the $30 each idea.
Though, since we're talking in Canadian money, that comes out to about $.26 USD.
So...have fun getting a gumball! ;D

Hi there, I'm an hole! =D

"Links disintegrate--
Bolt clanks back and forth behind the thudding roar--
Brass rains on the sidewalk--
The 'sixty rattles out its song.
A song I first heard years ago--
Of fireteams dug in on the breaks between the paddyfields, of tracer lasering the jungle night, of Hueys screaming through the void--
Of Lieutenant Castle getting short and hating it, wanting 'Nam to last forever--
A lullaby come all the way to New York City--
Come to sing you to sleep."

That's why we use Moose horns and beaver tails because our dollar has deflated so much.

Yard care rates are somewhat obscene, although I guess it also depends if you're using your own equipment or the home-owners.

If you're using your own stuff, $30 U.S. seems to be about the going rate (Which seems crazy to me) for a lawn that would take maybe an hour to mow. Special stuff like edging and whatnot might bump it up to $35-$40.

Realistically, being August, you'll probably only have to mow once.

If he has a crazy yard (like more than an acre or two) the sky is the limit. I'd figure $20-$30 an hour if you're using your own gear and gas. That's also assuming you don't mow like you're special ed.

Guy's not going to pay double because there's two of you. It just means less time invested on your part. He'd be nuts to pay 150% or really any premium.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

I have some friends that own lawn care businesses and they actually charge around a dollar a minute to cut. Granted they use professional equipment and are done in no time but the point still stands. Id say work it out to where you and your brother get around $20 (us of course you can google what the exchange is lol) each then youd be rocking
