As I browse the forums I cant help but notice the plethora of BA and SW marines lists/battle reports/everything. So I was wondering(Mostly as a new wargamer), why in the world som many people are playing these specific SM armies.

I haven't looked through the codex's at all and I would like an honest oppinion.

Thanks fellow Wargamers!

They are just the two newest marine codexs to come out. As soon as something else comes out you will see SW drop off and BA + new codex still going strong. Then when the next one comes out after that then you wont see much BA either.

Its just the way things work.

Wot Jayden said.

Me no care what happens. Will be keeping SW's! Me likes their belly fluff

And being Wolfies they got plenty of it!

LOL, that makes sense seeing how they have just come out with the codex and everyone wants a new toy to play with. Just a random question I had.

But what are the benefits of playing these two SM armies?

No serious player does that

Too risky.

Deep Striking a LR? That seems a bit OP.

Downunder

SW have some of the best troops in the game, plus several of their characters, like Nijal, are really f-ing sweet.

BA are the most recent codex and have some nice things that no one else has, and some stupid stuff like the aforementioned suicide LR...

The reason is that these are MEQ armies, and SM + MEQ has always formed the largest part of the fanbase.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

True that.
I did try it once but it was a massive table and I only did it for funsies and because my allies told me to. It was, however, fun to put 9 DC and a chappy in a crusader next to some very surprised noise marines...

Space Wolves:
The ablility to make a highly mobile Rhino rush/RB spam list that is as powerful on defence as it is on the charge. Also the coolest bitsbox for an army EVER imo.

Blood Angels:
So many people had a hard time taking down an entire FNP army when they came out, it gave the illusion of an OP codex. All you really have to do is take the age-old standbys for anti-marine: ap2 plasma guns and s8 templates.

BA also get stormraven drop ships which are amazing. I just used one in a 1000pt game against an IG player who went all tank and a chaos player and just flew around going flat out for an awesome cover save and twin-link multi-melta'd everything in the rear armor. Oh happy day...gotta love that immune to melta/power of the machine spirit 200pt crazy piece of overpowered-ness...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

WHY POORLY SPELLED CAPSLOCK THREAD TITLE?

GW has been doing variant chapters for a long time. Space Marines are their best selling army, and any excuse to sell more of them is A-okay for them. Blood Angels used to be slightly different, with one or two units that were unique to them, like Death Company and Sanguinary Priests. With the latest codex, they've made them kind of ludicrous and added tons of new units and abilities that are just goofy. Space Wolves have always been quite different, even back in their first codex in the early 90s.

Changing a mostly codex chapter to something so out there really irks me. I mean, deep striking Land Raiders is absolutely stupid, and terrible in-game (please, bring your AV14 vehicles closer to my meltaguns!) Meanwhile, the only thing they really added that was unusual to Space Wolves was Thunderwolf Cavalry. While they're silly, they're only one unit. Even then, they kind of fit in with the Space Wolf aesthetic.

Its a mix of old die-hard supporters making the most of their favorite army being in the limelight and the wave you get every time a new codex is out of new people buying them because they're the most up to date armies. Expect no less with the winter/spring army releases. I havent been part of the trend buying when a new army release comes out to date. But will make an exception for when Dark Eldar get rel-released. Sold off my old army years ago and just wont pay for the bad quality miniature line they have ( comapred to nearly every other 40k army ) a second time until new models are released.
