This is probably pretty simple but I want to know:

If I fire direct with a Basilisk does the minimum range still apply?

IIRC it can scatter back towards you and go under the minmum but yes it does. can anyone help me confirm?

No, I'm pretty sure thats wrong. If you fire it indirectly then the minimum range applies, although it can scatter inside of that range. But if you fire direct then there is no minimum range applied, it basically becomes a giant cannon. I don't have codex in front of me, but this was part of a huge thread here a few months ago, that's why I am pretty sure. Check with Gwar though...if you dare...

Minimum range does not apply when firing directly.

Where is it in the rulebook? I couldn't find and another guard player at my club doesn't believe me.

F***!

On a side note: you can choose to fire indirectly even if you have LOS but you also get to subtract your BS from the scatter roll.

Is there an advantage to doing that?

Pg. 58 Vehicles Shooting section, sub-section Ordnance Barrage.

"vehicles carrying ordnance barrage weapons can choose to fire them either directly or as a barrage- declare before you fire."

You get the usual benefits of barrage (i.e. determine cover from the blast marker, pinning) with the accuracy of direct fire.

and an additional -1 to the LD test, only downside is the min range.

To make this post worth while, I will top this thread off by saying you may fire within minimum range if firing direct.

When I first started playing with Ordnance Barrage weapons I created a cheat sheet to help with the difference between both types of firing (Ordnance / Ordnance Barrage). Each bullet point, has the corresponding page number at the end.

Ordnance
*May roll 2D6 and choose highest die for armour penetration (RB: 60)
*Against vehicles may put blast marker hole over any part of hull (RB: 60)
*May not fire any other weapon (RB: 58)
*may subtract BS from scatter roll if has LOS to model being fired upon (RB: 58)

*May move and fire (BRB: 58
*No Minimum Range (BRB: 58)
*May choose elevation (RB: 84)

*Multiple Blasts by a squadron scatter as normal (RB: 30)

Ordnance Barrage:
*May roll 2D6 and choose highest die for armour penetration (RB: 60)
*Against vehicles may put blast marker hole over any part of hull (RB: 60)
*May not fire any other weapon (RB: 58)
*may subtract BS from scatter roll if has LOS to model being fired upon (RB: 58)
*May also fire at at model even if there is no LOS, but may not subract BS (RB: 58)
*Must remain stationary to fire (RB: 58)
*must follow minimum range rules for weapon (RB: 58)
*Must strike the highest elevation that is under the hole in the centre of the marker (RB: 85)
*Non-vehicle unit(s) that are hit must immediately take a leadership test at a -1 modifier if it suffers an unsaved wound (RB: 58)
*Cover saves come from center of blast, not direction of vehicle (RB: 58)
*Multiple Blasts by a squadron scatter using the Multiple Barrage rule (RB: 32)

Hope this helps..
