Subject: Anyone still playing 7th Edition?

Hello there!
I started playing WHFB 6 months ago after a 5-year break. I have played all of my games using the 7th Ed rules and really don't like the 8th Ed rules.
Is anyone else sticking to the 7th rules? If so are there any threads relating to this, as all of the Army lists and tactics are based on 8th, which I can't relate to!
Thanks

Based upon all the rumors about 8th I thought I would be sticking with 7th, but after reading the rules officially I fell in love with it. What don't you like?

Seems as if everyone switched over as soon as 8th came out. If you miss how 7th played, you could try playing Warhammer Ancients. The new version of WAB retains the movement rules of classic WFB without the head ache of the army books.

To be honest the greater majority of players I know have taken to 8th with great enthusiasm. I think theres like two guys I know who are sticking to 7th for now due mainly to not wanting to shell out for the new book yet more than anything. 8th really is what drew me more into playing fantasy. Ive had small amounts of beastmen and dwarfs for years due to liking the models. But the 8th edition changes really made me take a step into the game. Its just a lot more fluid and fun to be honest. Best of luck though if you prefer 7th edition games.

Some of the local players had decried 8th ed, and now aren't showing up for game day at the local FLGS anymore.

I'm still playing 7th with my Empire.
The main reason is I cba to read the new book and note down in my head all the changes. I don't have time.

Too spoiled by 8th though. I like having a lot of models!
Still like my samurai though!

Theres not that many changes. The magic phase probably the largest, then percentages for army building, and random charge distances - combat, shooting and moving have stayed the same.

I'm playing 8 th edition now mainly because of the buff the O&G got. The only bad thing is that I am finding that my spider riders are near useless now.

I'm sticking with 7th edition because I don't feel like buying a whole new set of rules.

Did I forget to mention how expensive the book is? I've read a few changes but some just annoy me.

More changes than just that - new combat formations, changes to breaking ranks, True LOS.
For those who complain about the book price... wait until you have to pay to rebuild you army!

I just was listing a few of the largest changes. TBH rebuilding/remaking an army is just part of the hobby when a new edition comes out. Besides now that IoB is out you probably can get the mini rulebook online somewhere.

8th has been welcomed with open arms here.
Well, except for the local Power Gamer who complains of movement being meaningless, magic being out of control, charges from across the table, and the major nerf to fear. Of course, he only played his 11+ PD Innvospam VC all through 7th and apparently that was perfectly fine.

Around here there was a generally held belief that basic, mediocre troops were never really worth taking and that that was a real shame. You'd see these magnificent armies of rank after rank of solid troops and they'd just get stomped by an army that was basically a guy on a dragon, a couple of deathstar units, and some core units to make up the minimum requirements.
Now with the new steadfast rule, two ranks fighting and removing casualties from the back regular troops are an excellent option, the backbone of many lists. It makes for better looking and more interesting games. To be honest, the rest of the changes range from mildly nice to mildly annoying, but bringing rank and file troops into the game is a really big deal to me.
There's some guys who complain about 8th having dumbed down the game and complain about having to buy new models... these are guys who bought the exact models required to run specific, ludicrously overpowered Vampire Counts armies. I don't miss them.

Thanks for all of your opinions!
As I'd only started WHFB 6 months prior to 8th, I think it was just an annoyance having to get used to a whole new set of rules! That, as well as realising that a lot of the units that I had recently purchased had to be drastically altered just to be competative in 8th.
I assume this will propably get moved to the Army List section, but would anyone mind giving me some advise on how I could alter my 7th army list to make it a viable 8th option? This 1,500pt list is basically the models that I have, purchasing new units is not a major issue and my usual opponent runs a vanilla O&G list:
Heros:
Lvl 2 sorc w/ darkstar
lvl 2 sorc w/ scroll
assassin w/ ahw, manbane, rune of khaine
core:
16 spearmen w/ shields, fc
12 rxb
20 corsairs, 2xhw, sea-serpent banner, fc
special:
5 CoK
5 shades w/ ahw
16 BG w/ fc
rare:
1x RBT
Any ideas on tweaking this towards 8th edition would be a massive help and ease the transition into 8th!

Well you need a BSB, which is basically manditory for 8th edition (reroll all ld tests).
You will need 25% min core so you may need to beef up the spearmen unit some, 25 is usually a good number.
Blackguard got hit hard in this edition and while decent they really are not worth the points in my experience. 2 stone throwers hit turn 1 expect at least half if not more of the unit to be dead.
