I am attempting to get a new player into 40K that does not care about fluff and is simply looking for a fun and enjoyable hobby. Fun and enjoyable to this particular gentlemen also means an easy to remember rule set. Well anyone that war games knows that is a particularly difficult demand. After some thought I concluded Orks would be the right fit for this individual. I have concocted a list that should be fun and relatively easy to play. Please critique from a leisurely gamer POV.

HQ
G. Thraka

Troop
10x Nobz; 3x PKs; Pain Boy
Battle Wagon w/ Red PJ, Deff Rolla, Boarding Plank

10x Nobz; 3x PKs; Pain Boy
Battle Wagon w/ Red PJ, Deff Rolla, Boarding Plank

10x Nobz; 3x PKs; Pain Boy
Battle Wagon w/ Red PJ, Deff Rolla, Boarding Plank
------------------------------
1500

I could only make this particular list simpler by taking the 90 points of Pain Boys and rolling them into a Warboss with PK. So what do you think? Thirty W2 models with 6+, 4+ FNP saves; the best anti-tank Orks have (deff rolla); three AV 14 transports; supa Waaagh!; and plenty of Power Klaws!
Is this the type of list that is easy enough for a begin to play in friendly games while providing the level of fun and difficulty to encourage the full embrace of 40k?

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

Correct me if this is wrong, but your force is not 'legal' with a normal force organization chart. G Thraka can only make 1 squad of nobs a troop, and therefore leaves you with 1 HQ 1 Troop and 2 Elites (and 3 Heavy Support if you will). Now since you're trying to get a new player to begin you might be opting to omit the normal force organization charts, I don't know.

As for game play it's and easy army to play, and should be fairly good against other leisure armies.

It's krumpin' time!

you need to bet another troop choice or that warboss your talking about to make the list legal.

I have always wanted to run an all nob list sounds like alot of fun.

Battlewagons are dedicated transports for Nobz. If he took another Warboss instead of the third Nob squad its perfectly legal, albeit unbalanced...

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
Lets settle this in the arena http://pantsformer.mybrute.com

Not a legal list. ONly one troop unit. Need to read the codex and add troop choices. Also, don't need boardin plank with deffrollas..

i am on vacation so i don't have the dex in front of me but i thought a warboss would make one (1) nobz unit troop whereas Ghazzy makes all nobz troops.

Mercer: good point on the boardin planks plus deff rollas hahaha !

Your army will seriously suffer some major pain.

10 Nobz is WAY overkill. 6 Nobz + painboy w/ wound allocation is perfect.

Drop 1 of the nob squads to free up some points to toss a squad of 20 boyz. Then with the other massive points, upgrade your other nob squads for wound allocation.

You should have more points left over to run Lootas or gretchin to hold your obj. while nobz/boyz move up

Please let me face you with my 2 leman russes and 2 medusas. All large template 8/10 str hits that you instantly die from once out of your wagons.

With no other heavy support choices being selected, he can opt to take the battle wagons as heavy support.

There's not point to this really. Either way they're in the army, dedicated or not and those units will start inside them anyway.

Uhhhh I said this list is for a newb to just enjoy himself and get into the game. I am not trying to set him up with a list to compete in 'Ard Boyz.

Go for a balanced list...
I'm sick and tired of seeing new people in my area with armies full of cheese, they get pwned by anyone with decent tactics and hardly turn up for games at all after so many beatings.
A balanced list would give the new player more options, able to take on multiple armies with some success.

Heres what you could do. Start a 500 point tourney. 1 troop minimum, no HQ's, 1 each of HS,FA,EL. Run that for a month. Small games will get him used to the units he has and learn them a bit without people power playing too much. Up the points to 1k with normal FOC and let him decide what his army needs.

For 500 points i'd consider...
20 shoota Boys, nob, pole, claw, 2 rokkits 175?
20 shoota Boys, nob, pole, claw, 2 rokkits 175?
10 slugga boys, truck, nob, claw 140?

Not sure on points...
