Couple of lads from the library group bought and split the IoB set when they went to the release events this weekend..
First time seen the models in the flesh and have to say they look good. fwiw one of 'em won the store painting competition!

They have been on about getting a set each for Christmas and swapping so this was a nice little surprise yesterday.
The lads had a litte HE V Skaven game which they really enjoyed. Am chuffed that a couple of 10 year olds are liking fantasy!

Anyway to the point of the thread. Skull Pass Gobbos are roughly equivalent to said HE dude on Griifon + his magickicy stuff (so I am told)
Therefore the gauntlet is down for a silly game.

All the gobbos against a single HE model

Is this likely to work please?
Will the HE prince be swamped and deaded, or will the gobbos just leg it?
If there is too much bias either way how could it be balanced or is it so pointless that we may as well not bother (given the laughing at the prospect I don't think that is likely )

Although the lads are pretty imaginative and may come up with one themselves, any ideas for a scenario to make it as fair as possible would be welcomed please..

This sounds awesome. But I suck at writing scenarios, so you'll have to find someone else to do that!

Thanks Ediin

Was thinking at first that the Prince needs to get to the other table edge before the gobbos can stop him, which might work if he wasn't riding a flying beast.

An objective of some sort for him to claim might work better. Do High Elves ever go a questing or is that restricted to Brettonians?

High Elves do in fact seek out lost relics of elven empires long forgotten. In fact, lesser races building over the ruins of once great bastions of then High Elf nation is the most common cause of aggression from the elves. May as well spit on their graves.

Fancy way of saying yes, they quest.

Great idea! Will try to think up a scenario that could fit.

For the gobbos, not much motivation is needed I think it's the high elf that needs to be explained why he's out there alone, searching for something, etc...

Thanks for the input guys!

That is the problem RiTides. A Knight I can easily think would go off on his own. Not that I know a lot about them but it seems unlikely a High Elf Highborn would go off galavanting on his lonesome.

The fall back of becoming seperated from his fellows, or he is the sole survivor of an expedition gone wrong perhaps?

What would be a good artifact?
The Sword of Galthrililan or some such?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just had a thought.

If the gobbos by some miracle manage to slay the Prince, his head will make a nice trophy on the Skull Pass Icon of Mork Teepee thing!
Obviously not the head from the model. Don't want to make youngsters weep. Or get beaten up by their irraye parents!
The latter being the greater incentive not to decapitate the lad's mini!

I'll find a suitable substitute.

I've got a nice fluff idea.

Just say that the Prince on Griffon was scouting ahead of the main High Elf army, when he suddenly spots a huge Gobbo tribe.

How about, after hearing of news that the goblins of blood peak murdered and ate the princes brother, he takes upon his griffon to seek out the goblins and reclaim the other half of a pendant that the prince gave his brother when they were children, only to find there were more goblins then he had predicted.

I wonder if there is another word for "thesaurus"

To prove his right to lead his brothers in battle, he must recover the Medallion of the High Marshall. A non-magical brooch, having only historical and monetary value that has fallen into the hands of a goblin tribe, who not knowing its value have just shoved into one of their many piles of loot & booty.
Prince has to find the medallion, grab it and get out.
The goblins have a number of objectives to defend, with only 1 being the medallion pile.
Depending on who's playing; you can hid the objective to the Prince and/or not the goblins and base the number of objective counters/"loot piles" based on number of goblin players or regiments

In my day if we wanted a 4+ save we had to spend the points on a displacer field.

Not to rain on a parade, but a single Prince (even with a griffon) will be fairly hard-matched against a block of Goblins under 8th edition rules.
Because multiple ranks will be striking, the Prince cannot hope to kill enough or survive the many blows if engaged in combat.
I would offer a suggestion as a rule in this mini-game to help even the odds.

The Prince has sought to recover a lost artefact from the Goblins, who have made camp. The goblins, mistaking the precious heirloom for old junk, have randomly tossed the item in one of their sacks of loot.

Place d3+1 objective markers. If you're running the game like a game master, then nominate one of the tokens to be the real artefact and do not reveal this to any of the players. If the game is just between the players and there is no managing authority, then whenever the Prince arrives at an objective and searches through the loot, roll a d6- 5+ the heirloom is recovered and the Prince must make his escape. If all objectives have been searched and no heirloom recovered, the last objective checked through will automatically be the heirloom.

Because the goblins have made camp and are not expecting the Prince's daring raid, the Prince gains the Vanguard special rule (allowing a single move action before the game begins). The goblins scramble to arrange themselves to react to the Prince. Because of their confusion, no goblin unit may be arranged with more than full ranks and no more than 5 wide, standard bearers and musicians forgot their equipment and therefore provide no additional benefit. (meaning small units that will make for somewhat even matchup against the prince)

The goblins are deployed anywhere on the table more than 12" from a table edge and no closer than 6" to an objective.

Sounds fun! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the input which is goodly stuff!

That is the sort of thing that I was concerned about In Theory

I may well be running as Game Master btw, as it's better to let the kids have the chance to play. Initially I thought I might be playing but today one of the lads expressed interest in running the goblins.

As it will only be the Skull Pass contingent of Night Goblins then they will be run in ranks no more than 5 wide anyway.
Maybe why they got whooped today - or was that just me being useless as usual

Galathrial and the Lost Pendant of Drakscillion.

Galathrial neth Galandrial was in disgrace. Not only had his company of elves lost the key strategic high ground of Pengeston to the greenskin hoards, but in the process lost an ancient heirloom of great worth. The Dwarf wrought pendant was a token of the old alliance and passed down through generations. A StarDragon scale from one of the most famous of the stardrakes encased in finely spun silver and gold, weaving constellations around the iridescent scale.

The loss was a blow greater than the high ground and was a knife in the heart of the family pride. In the confusion of the rearguard action to retreat from the ruins atop of Pengeston Mound, the pendant slipped its sungold chain. In a daring bid to recover the pendant, Galathrial slipped out of camp with his closest followers. Low clouds and drizzle closed in separating the raiding party from their Prince. Now alone on his Griffon Galathrial nears the Goblin encampment…

This allows the possibility of reinforcements if the game gets too one sided, as the loyal friends of Galathrial find there way on horseback (?) to the encampment.
Or even a unit of dwarves summoned by the pendant?

I like the multiple objectives idea. Also if the pendant is recovered this could translate into sweets (that’s candy if you didn’t already know )

So what do you think guys?
Will try and sort out the rules and layout from the excellent suggestions above. As well as tweak some of the names and narrative, which is just off the top of my head to provide an idea for review.

Thanks again for the assistance

I like the idea of the possibility of reinforcements if you're acting as game-master. Perhaps for both sides! That way you can always even it out.

The back-story is good, and plausible, imho . Post some pics of this when you do it!! When are you shooting for? (It's probably in the post above, sorry if I missed it!)

Thanks RiTides

Not sure as the date is not fixed yet, the kids are still learning the ropes with WHFB
Though one of em has left me way behind!

We are going to test KoW Thursday so maybe a week or two to give me time to set things up and clarify the details.
