Decided to build a Dark Eldar army, I really have no experience with them at all so any advice is welcome.

At 1000 points my first thought is that you could save yourself a nice pile of points by dropping the Archon to a Dracon - same relative killing power for half the base price.

You're also only fielding 5 Dark Lances (4 when you consider the Incubi Raider will probably want to turbo boost). Depending how many vehicles your opponents tend to field you can get away with this, but I would tend to advocate adding in a few more by switching out 1-2 splinter cannons. This will give you more long range kick.

Personally, I would probably drop all of the Night Shields (I think they're a touch too expensive at 1000 points) and also drop some of the Raider squads down to 6-7 men.

I'd use the extra points from this and the Dracon savings to buy up either another Raider squad, a Wych boat, or a Ravager depending on what I owned and if I wanted to be more gunline or more assaulty/short range.

If you don't want to drop the N.Shields you could still use saved points from the Dracon and drop some Warriors in order to buy a Ravager, or if you don't have a Ravager maybe a small squad of RJBs with 2x Blasters.

I think lack of Ravagers is hurting you the most - they're an excellent tool and well worth the investment in any DE list.

Your 2nd big hole is that you're paying 320 points (basically a 3rd of your army) in order to have a single assault unit protected by an AV10 transport...I don't recommend this.

Thank you for the input, I haven't really bought anything yet. Thats why i want to make a list so I get what I need. Would you maybe suggest dropping the incubi and using warriors instead?. I figured the blasters could be used from the open top as well as the dark lances seeing their stats are practically the same except for the range. I defiantly agree with the lack of Ravagers, and will most likely fill the hole with one.

I would recommend not using a retinue at this point value. The value of the retinue is to buy a Raider when you have already used up your Elite and Troop slots buying Raiders (or if you really want Incubi). Put the DE Lord with Wyches or a Raider squad and have him leap out and assault something while the Wyches assault something else or the Warriors shoot at something. If you really want a retinue at 1000 points I'd advocate a mixed load of 2-3 Incubi and the needed number of warriors to fill out the rest of the unit. Equip the Warriors with Lances, S.Cannons, or nothing depending on your build (for gunline - lances, for gunboats - S.Cannons, for full on rush - no upgrades, they're meat shields0

Range is an important stat and really changes how a weapon can be used.
You can never shoot anything (well...excepting scouts and infiltrators) first turn with Blasters) You can pretty much always shoot first turn with Lances.

If you really want to be mean I would suggest running this list:


1 Naked Heamon
6 x five man raider squad with DL
3 x Ravager, Vect them all

Total firepower:

12 Dark lances
6 Plasma cannons



I have never lost a game with that list, and provided you play on a standard size board neither will you.

They're Gunboats - they provide splinter rifle rapid fire shots for thinning hordes.

I will say, Clthomp's list is good - just recognize it's a gunline list and decide if that's the sort of list you wish to run.

At least there are no Warp Beasts in it

No room for the beast. If I could only scare up another 75 pts

That list seems a little pricey after the calculations it seems to be 60 points over...
