Hi!
First of all I couldn't find the part of the forum for shameless self-promotion so I searched and found that any apps made for wargame use are promoted under this forum topic. If I am in the wrong place I am sorry.

Anyways:
Had some time over from all the other stuff I normally do so I wrote an Android implementation of a scatter dice.

It is completely free, no ads, no nothing and is really basic but it does the job.
Graphics are currently my creation but if someone wants to contribute the 3 pictures that make up this application please feel free to PM me or send me an email from the Android Market.

Enjoy!

Just given it a try. I'd make the time it spends spinning shorter (it takes just a bit too long).

Also, have the arrow relative to the compass so that if you have to move the phone it stays pointing in the same direction. That would be a genuine improvement over dice as you can roll then stick the phone wherever is most appropriate and measure over the top of it.

Thanks for the feedback!

The current "roll" time is 2-5 seconds, I guess I could shorten it a bit. I will tune it tomorrow.

In my experience sensor programming (compass, accelerometer etc) is a bit tricky but I will investigate if I can get it to stick in position after a roll.

Thanks!

Having done some stuff with this myself, the compass is more straight forward than the tilt sensors.

Question about use:
How do you ascertain which direction you point the phone?

With the scatter die, you roll it and the die is relative to wherever it lands to the model. So if the die lands pointing in one direction, that's where you scatter.

With a phone-app, you can spin/roll then turn the phone in any direction you wish to scatter favorably (though it might start arguments)... Should there be some indicator, such as "point this little arrow at your torso while holding above the model" sort of instruction built into the app?

Well, I really didn't think anyone would hold it above the model since that is not what you do with the regular scatter dice but you kind of gave me an idea:
What if you where to bring in the camera viewfinder and draw the spinning arrow on it? That would solve your problem. Also add the arrow you are talking about of course so that there will be no discussion Maybe this is a 2.0 feature.

How to use this application:
Put the phone down as close as you can to where you want to scatter from and double-tap the screen. You shouldn't hold it in your hand unless absolutely necessary. Also a phone usually has a a pretty rectangular shape which you can use to align it with the tables rectangular shape and then there really shouldn't be any discussions... unless playing in a tournament setting I guess.

Have you seen the new Sensor API? It was probably written by a C-programmer that hates Java. It is horrible to use.

You did a good job and i like your sharing.By the way,my work is to paint qrcode in java.I am new to scatter dice.Anybody know somewhere that sells scatter/artillery dice? Preferably larger than the absolutely tiny ones that come in GW's dice blocks? I have more than enough 6-siders as is (damn you Shadowrun!), so I don't particularly feel like shelling out ten bucks for two 12mm dice.
