Skaven Slaves are Expendable - the rules state you can "voluntarily target ranged attacks at enemy units in close combat ..." how does this work with template weapons / cannons? do you simply attack as normal and any frindlies hit so be it? do you have to roll for the 50% hits even if the template does not touch your troops?

Also if you put a character in the group do they then become expendable - can you still fire into the enemy in close combat - as a naked warlock engineer would make a nice leadership boost the slaves ...

Putting a warlock into a unit of slaves means the combat would not be entirely composed of slaves, meaning expendable would not apply

Thanks everyone - but I am still unclear as to how the Skaven warp lightning cannon would work in this situation - would you have to drop the shot off your troops or can you land it on them for the bounce?

You can aim it into combat, and cannons dont nominate a target so the prohibition on targeting your own troops could not apply

No they cant, you cannot aim a cannon shot so there is potential for it to pass through friendly units.

"Note that you are not allowed to make a cannon shot in such a way that it has a chance of hitting a friendly unit or an enemy unit that is engaged in close combat."

Except in the case of skaven slaves, it could pass through the enemy unit in CC, just not the slaves, right? As that's their special rule.

Pretty much, sounds hard to do though it would take some tactical genious to deploy properly.

Reason slaves were FAQ'd to not randomize anymore is because they took out that rule from the mainrule book

So shoot your slaves, just dont scatter back!
