GamesiPlay.net is holding the "Double Trouble" Season II opener at the Los Angeles Battle Bunker at 11:30am on October 2nd. This is a two-player team event.
Entrance is $10 per person, with trophies for the top team and gift certificates awarded to the top 4 finishers. Gift certificate will also be awarded for Best Painted Army (individual).
Returning players please note the point change - Armies are now 1250 per player (2500 per team)!
Tournament Rules
1. Force Composition: Each team consists of 2 players. Each player fields an army of up to 1250 points, chosen from a single codex (players on the same team may play armies from different codices). Daemon Hunter and Witch Hunter allies may be used normally. Note that teammates cannot "share" points - any unused points by either player are simply lost. Both teammates’ armies must meet Force Org Chart requirements and obey all restrictions.
2. Players only benefit from special rules or wargear in their own army. For example, Player A's units are unaffected by Player B's Chapter Tactics, even though they are on the same team. Likewise, Player B cannot use Player A's Teleport Homing Beacons. A good rule of thumb is that ally's units are only affected if enemy units are as well. Turns are taken as a team, with both players moving, shooting, assaulting, etc.
3. The latest FAQs (available from www.games-workshop.com) will be used. Any rule disputes will be resolved by an appointed judge. Judges' rulings are final.
4. Players must provide a clear, written copy of their army list (including point values) which may be inspected at any time by judges or opponents.
Tournament Structure
Deployment: Deployment Type for each round will be "Pitched Battle." Follow all rules for that deployment type as described in the 40K rulebook.
Mission: A different mission will be played each round. All missions will be objective and/or kill point based.
Each game will last for a maximum of 2 hours, or 5-7 turns - determined as per the standard missions in the 40k rulebook (turn 6 on a 3+, turn 7 on a 4+)
At the end of each round, teams will be required to rate their opponents' sportsmanship score on a scale of 1-5. This score should reflect the opponents' attitude, organization, and sense of fair play.
Each team will play a total of 3 rounds, with final ranking determined first by record, with ties being decided first by Tournament Points earned, and then by Points Allowed.
Thanks and hope to see you there!

Is it shared force org or does each team get to make their own army from the force org? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, for anyone thinking about going, these guys run a super smooth tournament, and I recommend making it.
Teams tourneys are for the win!

If it's like last time, I would assume that each team member gets its own forceorg chart. Looking forward to this.

A little bump and reminder, as we're less than a week out. Be sure and call/come in to the Bunker to sign up, and we'll get things rolling Saturday at 11am

That's weird about the call-in. I'm headed to the Bunker tonight for a league game...I'll have to hit James up about that one.

Not us. Some other club is running it. If my wife and I weren't so beat (three GTs, a Doubles Tourney, my 40th Bday, and a Muse Concert in the span of 6 weeks) we would be there with our T3 4 Life army (Guard/Sisters), but alas even God had a day off.

Just wanted to tap off a quick note to thank the GamesiPlay guys for throwing this tournament - we came up from San Diego to play and had a great experience (winning helped!). The Bunker is huge with tons of nice tables, the guys running the event were really friendly and professional. We had good games with good opponents - all in all a good time. My only critique would be that trying to play a 2500 point game with 4 players at the table in 2 hours is completely impossible... we never had a game go past turn 3. I would recommend either cutting the points to 2k or adding at least a half an hour to each round.
This tournament is coming to San Diego next month, so we'll be bringing the Difficult and Dangerous team out to defend our title next month... in our own back yard. I strongly recommend this tournament to anyone who likes doubles 40k.

Terrible rules-writing no doubt, but given that you basically can't play it RAW in any kind of sensible way lets you know that it can't be right.

The GamesiPlay guys did an awesome job and were way friendly, would definitely go to another one. It seems like everything run by the GamesiPlay guys and the Chosen are always fun and professional, and the prizes are always awesome (especially in comparison to the GW "Golden Skull" painting contest...don't even get me started on that joke)
To any GamesiPlay or Chosen on here - thanks for organizing awesome events like this one!

Hey, Matt (the judge) from GamesiPlay.net here. Thanks to everyone that played in the event - really good start to the new season with lots of returning teams and plenty of new faces as well. In total we had 18 teams (36 players), and from the sound of it we'll have a similar turnout next month at Games Empire San Diego.
Winners were:
1st Place: Russel and Jef from "Difficult and Dangerous" playing Orks and Eldar. Jef also tied for Best Painted Army for his fantastic Saim Hann Eldar, with Carlos Rangel's conversion-packed Tau force taking the other half of the prize.
2nd Place: "Team Turf Munchers" - Dark Angels and Blood Angels. Apparently the way to make DA competitive is to team them up with BA. Who knew
3rd Place: "Seven" - Chaos Daemons and Chaos Marines...100% Nurgle. Epidemius was in serious effect here. Diseases were spread, puss oozed...all that good stuff.
4th Place: "Team Awesome" - Tau and Black Templars. Railguns, fancy gizmos, and a bunch of pissed off guys with swords and preferred enemy ftw
Also - Seabass will be getting the pics from the event up shortly, I'll be sure and post as soon as they're available.

It was a great tournament!
I'm the other member of Team Difficult and Dangerous, and I had an absolute blast here. I agree with my partner about the format making for games that ended early, but after the first game we came to terms with it and were playing with the intent to set up for a turn 3 victory.
Only technical note I'd make is that my eldar are Altansar and not Saim-Hann, but that's nitpickery in the first degree and I apologize in advance. I'll definitely be there in San Diego to do my share of title defense!
...The Altansar tanks (red ones go faster):

Ah, my bad. I see a bunch of red bikes and skimmers and think Saim Hann.
We're discussing some tweaks to the tourney to provide for more turn 4+ games. If the store agrees we should have a couple changes to try out for the Game Empire tournament next month. That said - if any attendees have ideas, comments or feedback, always feel free to message me here or at GamesiPlay (I'm on daily).
