Only just getting back in WHFB after a few years out and on thing has confused me slightly.

The rule book has list of the various common magic items, points costs and rules. The army book has a short list of common magic items and then army specific one. The points costs of some of the common ones are a littel different from the rule book but I understand that you use the points cost in the army book. Can you take any of the other common magic items playing the costs in the rule book?

BRB FAQ says whenever theres a different set of rules for a common magic item in you'r army book, just use the ones in the BRB instead.

Specifically- always use the rules from the BRB for common magic items. The only thing you should use from the Army Book (for common magic items) are the points costs.

@ Hoverboy - It was the flamey banner thing that caused me to raise this - a mate suggested I have it in a unit but it didn't appear in the listed items in the army book

Yea its mandatory around here with the two hydras, HPA and a whole bunch of trolls running around.
Since it ain't in the book you just take it from the BRB.
