I am still working on getting a full grasp on the 40k rules. One thing I couldn't seem to find information on is the effect of fearless wounds after losing combat with a monstrous creatures. Do they still take extra wounds equal to the difference in unsaved wounds?
Yep. It's a standard tactic to take them down. Get a multiple assault going against a brood of gants and an MC and let the fearless wounds take out the MC.
However you only take NR! if at least one of the models in the combat can actually hurt you. Not normally an issue for Nid MCs, but the Wraithlord can, sans a marine powerfist or similar, escape NR! wounds based on that rule.
