I rather foolishly didn't buy the 2009 version of Space Hulk when it came out last year.

I really fancy a game.

I have seen I can buy the rulebook off ebay quite cheap. My mate has a nid army and I have SMs. What else comes in the box that I would need? If I bought the rulebook and made my own board pieces would I be able to play it or would I need anything else?

the tiles, the bits, the cards... it would probably take more effort than the money would be worth to jury-rig this... in other words, buy the damn game!

Cards? What version of SH are you playing?

But yeah, just buy the game if you want to play it all that badly. Really, I don't think the game is THAT fun, but that isn't for me to judge...

It'd be cheaper in the long run to just buy a set. Cruise your local game shops, you might get lucky and find one still sitting on the shelf.

If you are going the ebay route, you can generally pick up 1st ed Space Hulk relatively cheaply and this takes care of the tiles issue. This will also supply the blips for hidden movement etc.

OK the quality is not the same, but....

The rules for 1st and 3rd edition are largely the same, but 1st edition has loads of expansions and articles that you can add to the game. The Deathwing and Genestealer expansions added a load of new terminator weapons (powerswords, grenade launchers and lightning claws), psychic powers, genestealer hybrids and terminator librarians and grey knights. While the WD articles of the time introduced lots of new missions and rules for standard marines and traitor marines as well as new map pieces, various tokens and new missions.

They knew how to support a game that wasn't fantasy or 40K back then.

Well for rules you could not post links to copyright-infringing material..., since 3rd is heavily based on the 1st edition rules anyways. I remember seeing the 1st edition rules/missions online as well, but I don't know if that breaks copyright so I won't post them.

Then you could buy some big sheets of graph paper gridded to 1 inch (Staples has a few good ones). Instead of making a "puzzle board" that connects, just draw out the different missions on each sheet.

I'm sure you have some existing 40k miniatures and dice you can use.

For blip counters and CP counters I'd just use hand drawn cardboard, or even scraps of paper. For an inventory of how many of each you can check the official GW site for the OOP Space Hulk or just search online.

Simple, cheap, and ugly.

For purchased stuff I'd just keep an eye on Ebay, Craigslist, Kijiji, etc., or see if you can buy spare tile sheets from a local player. There are a few online merchants that make passable tiles, like the guys that make the space corridor system.

They should have just released it properly and made it buy able rather than the splash that they did.

You can pickup the Card Game that FFG just put out. Its pretty good and it cost me all of $20ish.

I suggest finding Incursion. The box game has standups, if you don't have minis, and you can easily replace the models with analogs from 40k

Bam, said the lady!
