My friend likes to play 3 Battlewagons with def rollas, KFF and nob squads (including painboyz in them). They are open topped. 2 Wartrucks with max boyz inside as a DT, 2-3 Def Copters, and a grot squad to pick up tactical points. My armour and transports almost always has to sit back and try to punch through them before I get steamed rolled so they are mostly idle. Also the large nob squad has cybork armour and that power claw that does nearly 29 unstoppable wounds is in play. I usually don't have problems with the boyz, but the nob squads and def rollas in the the battlewagons (with kff) are hard to destroy and wreck havoc on my SM.

I usually play a LR (with Laz Canons), 6 Assault Termies (deep striked or in LR), Vindicator, Predator for support, Thunderfire Canon, a HQ Hero, 1 Razorback, 2 full rhinos and an occasional dreadnought dropped by pod and 2 full tac squads with one combat squad.

My arsenal includes:

1 Land Raider
1 Vindicator
1 Thunderfire w/ Techmarine
1 Command Squad
2 Dreadnoughts (BR and a Ironclad)
2 Drop Pods
5 Scouts
1 Land Speeder Storm
1 Predator
1 Whirlwind
1 Attack Bike
3 Rhinos
2 Razorbacks (proxied as a rhino or RZ back)
10 Terminators (either assault or ranged)
10 Sternguard
Pedro Kantor
Shrike
Chief Librarian (that I sometime proxy as a regular Librarian)
Cassius Chaplain
Chapter Master and/or Captain
5 full 10 man tac marines squads
20 Assault marines

I've found that Thunderfire Cannons work very well against Orks. I've also found that predators with Autocannons and Heavy Bolters work excellent. The key to beating Orks is to make sure your the one assulting, not the other way around.

Although last match the Thunderfire canon didn't even get a shot off because he stole the initiative and his def chopper was able to get into base-to-base contact with the canon which he destroyed. I was able to take out his chopper, but we ended up killing each other in the process making the canon futile.

Yea thats the big issue on the TF. At the end of the day it is an artillery piece which makes it very fragile.

Sternguard are a very good option. Combi Flamers and Meltas can fend off swarms and MC very well. Also Autocannon dreads are the bane of trukks and jetbikes

Bolters.
Lots of bolters
bolters with heavy weapons that eat battlewagons.

Pedro and librarian go with sternguard. if you're in an objective game you want your sternguard on the objectives firing at everything and anything.
Librarian does nothing but fire Null Zone every turn (unless no inv save characters left)

The two tac squads either combat squad and go tank hunting, OR stay as one stationery unit with missile launchers firing out the rhinos

kenshin, does the extra HK always make sense since I can use the fireports of the rhino and hit the BW with the missle launchers inside? Also, no reason for a Razorback or Rhino in this scenario?
