Subject: CSM Deamon Engine: The Cackling.

Well, the Internet was down today, and as such, I was bored, and a bored man with a spare parts box can result in some strange things. I made something, and will have pictures up of it as soon as I find the camera, but I also came up with some rules for it, too, which I will now post. All points values are still up in the air.
Developed by the Dark Mechanists of the Brethren of Chains, the Cackling is named after the insane laughter that the deamon bound to it makes constantly. They are fired from orbit, and when they land, they indescriminately fire at all moving targets around them, only to retreat back into their hatches when all life has ceased to be around them.
The Cackling: 40 pts.
0-1 restriction Fast Attack
BS: 3 AV: F: 10 S: 10 R: 10
1-3 Cacklings can be taken as a single unit.
Fast Vehicle.
Equipment: Twin Linked Heavy Bolter
May Exchange TL Heavy Bolter for one of the following:
TL Lascannon 20 pts
Havoc Launcher 10 pts
Special Rules:
Deep Strike
Fire Frenzy
Immobile
Daemonic Possession
Inertial Guidance
Deep Strike: As per the BRB, however: Roll for reserves for all Cacklings as one unit, though they deploy seperately if they do arrive.
Fire Frenzy: The Daemon bound inside the Cackling wants nothing more than carnage in an undiluted form, and at the beginning of every friendly shooting phase must roll a dice. On a 3-6, Nothing happens and the Cackling operates as normal. However, on a 1 or a 2, The Cackling fires it's weapon TWICE at the nearest unit, friend or foe. The Cackling is subjected to Fire Frenzy on the turn it arrives.
Immobile: After it has landed, the Cackling can not move under any circumstance.
Daemonic Possession: As per the CSM rule book (Ignores Shaken and Stunned results.)
Inertial Guidance: See Drop Pod rules.
Not painted, and not complete (notice the missing Ammo belt for the Heavy Bolter)

Actually, it started out with me making a turret for my IG Appoc army, but then I saw the face from the Chaos Vehicle sprue, and just KNEW I had to corrupt it.

I know. I probably have 40 or more of those little things I ended up giving a couple to a friend for his WH land Raider. Dunno why he wanted them Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and I'd bump up the cost to about 40. Having an armor value is a big responsibility, even if it's all 10's. There's a reason you can't take trukks or rhinos without passengers

At first I was going to call it the Daemon Egg, but thought that sounded stupid. What part of the backstory was was that it is shot from orbit in an Egg shaped ball (hence the lid) and it buries the bottom half underground at impact.

Id say let them able to drop at any turn, no reserves roll is needed (like a drop pod)
give them the inertial guidance rule. this is a must have for a little turret of death.
as for weapons. I think they should come with.. CacklerGun
Range: 24'', S: 4, Ap 5, Heavy 4+d6
may make the cacklergun twin linked for 15pts.
may replace with two heavy bolters (not twin linked, just two heavy bolters) for 10pts or twinlinked heavy bolter for 5pts
may replace with twinlinked lascannon for 30pts
may replace with two havoc launchers for 25pts
as for giving it a worse version of a chaos dreads fire frenzy I have something a bit better..
Laugh Crazy:
The Cackling is completely insane as its crazed laughter fills the air. each turn.. roll a d6 for each cackling.
on a 1: the cackling succumbs to a fit of laughter and is not paying attention to its target. resolve its shots on Bs 2.
2-5: The Cackling bursts in laughter as it fires its weapons on the feeble enemy (sane)
on a 6: The cacklings mind snaps breifly as it goes into a crazed laugh filled rampage. the cackling will fire its weapon THREE TIMES on the nearest enemy (if in range), AND TWICE on the nearest ally.

It would also need some kind of rule so that it can fire on the turn it deepstrike. Also, awesome idea.

So it is capable of firing 30 shots as a Non-appoc unit?
TyraelVladinhurst wrote:maybe also allow linked auto cannons and linked heavy flamers? and by linked auto cannon i mean a quad gun
Possibly, I might have to do that. Truthfully I was looking at their different Stats and saw: Multishot weapon, One hit wonder weapon, blast weapon. I just knew I had to include the Havoc Launcher because that is one of the few Chaos Only weapons and it just doesn't get enough love

I thought things can fire on the turn they deepstrike, but can't assault.
Thanks, you would be amazed at what boredom+spare parts can turn up with.
Also, awesome Avatar.

Inertial guidance basically makes it not mishap, not land off the table etc; and yeah, things can fire the turn they deepstrike.

Vehicles can't, they count as having moved at crusing speed, meaning that unless it's fast or have some kind of special rule it can't fire. And just a nit-pick, units with internal guidance systam can mishap, but just in certain conditions (like scattering off the board) Finally, IMO you should put the Cacklings in their own special FoC, kinda like lesser daemons. They count as a heavy support (or fast attack maybe) but don't take up a slot.

You just mean that it's a Fast Vehicle right? I don't have my BRB with me.
Inertial Guidance it is then. Going to add that in.
Also, and I can't beleive I didn't add this in before, nor can I believe I haven't spotted this before, but the Cacklings are supposed to be subjected to Fire Frenzy on the turn they arrive. Adding that in now.

I woudl give it a rule similar to the Monolith Fulx Arc. Each turn it fires D6 shots at each unti in range (friend or foe).
if it loves carnage so much it woudl surely fire indicriminately at EVERYTHING in range, all the time. make the Fire Frenzy nastier by changing it so that the Cackler always fires at both friendly and enemy units.
Maybe if you roll a 5-6 you can then choose which units it fires at, other than that it just drops and shoots.
The image i have in my head is a TRUE weapon of chaos, as dangerous to wield as they are to face. A Chaos Lord drops it from orbit, it lands and just wreaks havoc from the second it lands. They are already pretty cheap so if you lose them on turn 2 it wont murder your army, but they coudl take a fair few of the enemies with them.

I am not going to lie, I really like that, Praxiss, and am kind of shocked I didn't come up with it myself. Having said that, however, how would it handle different weapons? One Havoc Launcher/Lascannon shot per unit?

Wrong. Read the Drop Pod description. it says nothing about the table edges, and can therefore mishap.

Good point. Maybe D3 shots then. Or maye write it that an autocannon, lascannon or havoc launcher are too heavy to fire that rapidly and limit them to 2 shots per unit?
Edit: thinking about it. D3 woudl be better. If it coudl fire D6 H.Bolter sdhots that could be up to 18 shots in each unit in range. Way too harsh for just 40 points.

When I heard the cackling, I thought it would be a new rule for demonic possessed engines, like some sort of demonic presence causing nearby models to get a penalty to moral maybe (a rule that we should have!), but this is pretty cool to
