Having never played fantasy before (in any edition) feedback would be very welcome. From what i've seen on battle reports, this seems to be good. It has got loadsa "hammer" units (gg) but no fast units, which could be a problem. I might drop one gg unit for some cairn wraiths, and....
Vampire lord, MotBA, forbidden lore,
armour that forces enemy to re-roll to wound (50pts?), *sword worth up to 40 pts* (basically, 100 pts of wargear) 390pts
Vampire, BSB, banner of blood keep, crown of command,
MotBA, 280pts ................maybe nightshroud?
Necromancer, Sceptre De Noirot, War banner, 100pts
41 zombies, standard, musician, X2 176 (352)pts .................Add/take away zombies?
20 skeletons, FC, spears, banner of flaming attacks, 210pts
Corpse cart, unholy lodestone, 100pts
20 GG, FC, banner of barrows 315pts
20 GG, FC, Great weapons, 290pts
15 GG, FC, 210pts ........................Drop for cairn wraiths/Varghulf?
2247 pts. What should I add? Change?

I think the Lord should be a full time caster
I dont think the Necromancer can have a banner
Remove spears from the skeles and bump up their numbers (they're bad but they at least should also tarpit a bit)
I may remove the 15GG to bump up the other GG up to 30 guys (while removing points elsewhere) or as you said get some vargulfs

Strangely enough, I think it (he) can. It is under common magic items, not banners
If I drop the 15 GG, I could get a Varghulf (free up 35pts) or 5 spirit hosts (need to find 40 pts somewhere)
I dont know about Varghul because cannons.... well... *splat*.... whereas spirit hosts... well..... *splat* (but this time its the enemy)
I could drop the spears on the skelies, because the don't know if i'd ever raise them to 40 strong and not my gg, so I guess i could drop the spears, and if i get a 15pt +1 str sword for lord, then I am back to 8pts to spend. 2 zombies?

Just because the war banner is under common magic items, doesn't mean a necromancer can take it. The only characters who can take magic banners are those who are the BSB. You can have a Wight King or a Vamp as your BSB.
I would have to double check the book, but pretty sure if you take a magic banner you can't take any other magic items with it. The blood keep banner though is way to expensive for what you get and what your protecting - 280 points for a 2 wound model is too much. You'd be better to split it into 2 vamps with less stuff.
Necromancer - again, can't take the war banner.
Zombies - they're pretty bad. Definatley not a hammer unit and now that enemy units can get 2 ranks worth of attacks, they'll die pretty quick. Considering you can't spam cast reliably anymore, not sure how these are going to be worth it.
20 Skeletons is too small, plus they usually don't do anything in CC so I wouldn't take the flaming attacks banner.
Corpse Cart - eh. Doesn't count towards your core total - not really worth it in my opinion.
You really should combine some of the grave guard units together into 2 larger ones - 15 is way too small.
Carn Wraiths are better in my opinon than the Vargulf if you have a Helm of Commandment running around, although with the changes to the skirmishers rule they are slightly worse off with not having a 360 charge arc.
Personally I think ghouls are your best bet for filling your core choices, as they have multiple attacks, decent initiative, poison and toughness 4.

- I agree that the 15 GG should merge into the other two.
- I would drop one unit of zombies for a Varghulf. Wraiths are good too if you shave off enough other points to get at least 3 and a Banshee, preferably 4 & banshee which could be 1 less zombie unit and the corpse cart (see below). The trick is that the CC doesn't count towards your min 25% core so that might have to go first.
- Move the war banner to the skeletons and drop the spears. The flaming banner isn't bad but it isn't that useful on skeletons. They aren't the unit you want fighting the nasty things that have regen. Skeletons' job is to hold the enemy in place while your other units kill stuff. HW/S serves them better IMHO. I would also prefer the unit to be at least 25 strong. They will take a lot of wounds especially against any elite units.
- For your lord if you're taking FL and MotBA you might as well spend the 50 points to get his magic to level 3. It doesn't cut into his powers or magic item allotment.
- The corpse cart is not a guaranteed inclusion. If you don't have a varghulf, knights or a coach it becomes an easy target for cannons. If you don't have either ability to boost your core troops beyond their starting size (ghouls/skellies) I would look to get more killy things first. I do like to use my CC in smaller point games when I'm boosting my core from turn one. It isn't useless but it isn't amazing either. It's one of those units you have to try for yourself to see if it has a place in your army.
edit - took out a suggestion that would have dropped core below 25%. durrr

VC list 2.0
Lord, Tricksters helm, sword of strife, enchanted shield
MotBA, forbidden lore,
Vampire, BSB, banner of blood keep,
MotBA,
Necromancer, CC, unholy lodestone, Sceptre de Noirot,
41 zombies, standard, musician, X2
20 skelies, FC, Magic flame attacks,
24 GG, FC, Banner of barrows
23 GG, FC, great weapons
Varghulf,
Played a match (proxy!) against HE, Blood and Glory mission. GG rocked (diidn't die). I think one of the main reason i won was blocking charges with raised zombies hordes, and my winds of undeath spell which raised a spirit host and kept his Phoenix guard locked up for the GG to kill.

Also, what about dropping the cc (not the necromancer, to keep the zombies marching) and get another vampire with forbidden lore (he uses death/shadow and my lord uses shadow/death) and give him a shiny new magic weapon (character killing?). I could put him with the skelies, and march around assassinating hq's, as well as do magic missile spells.
Also, besides GG, Varghulf (they can't be everywhere at once...) and lore of metal, what do vc have against knights?
