Hi , after reading about Warmachine , i got interested in it, the whole small sized confrontation really appealed to me
so which faction do you think i should start with ?, you know like the marines of 40k being a starter faction?
I am looking for
Balanced shooting, and hitting list
Independent, which mean if it loses support for one turn then it wouldn't just keel over and die
Durable or at least doesn't lose units easily, so not fragile
Slow is fine, i can work with slow
I am also looking for something for my friend, if anything he like playing Orks, so a faction with load and load of troop(well more than your opponent) which does the simple "point and attack" might fit for him
so ? any ideas?

If you are only looking into WM and not Hordes then the faction that fits better into your requisites is Khador.
They have a nice balance of shooting and mellee (but are a bit more mellee oriented), their jacks are vey durable (even if they are slow), and they don't rely on many tricks and combos to win the game for them. Their basic tactic of "move forward" and "apply axe to face" works really well for newer players.
Your friend, again if he is only interested in WM and not Hordes, could be interested in Menoth, they usually outnumber their opponents, they are not as easy to play as Khador at first, mainly because they rely more on support units and spells to really make their combat jacks / units shine. If your friend is interested in Hordes as well, then I would recomend that he looks into Trollbloods, their troops are very hard to kill thanks to tough and they relly less on warbeasts than the other Hordes factions.
Hope that helps.

I don't know, to me all the factions can fall into this category.
I think the questions you should aim for is:
-What is cool?
-What do you think you will invest in the long term (aka, which model range do you like better)?
-Do you want to go Jack Heavy or Infantry Heavy?
With the inclusion of mercs (for WM) and minions ( for Hordes at a lesser extent IMO) any Faction can do what you strive to narrow down.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

khador and protectorate seem to fill your criteria.
khador has greater base power and durability but rhe protectorate have a ton of denial and great buff selection. trolls from hordes also fit the description.
neither warmachine faction is especially good at shooting as a whole but they both have a few selections that can shoot quite well, both are very good at melee combat.
to me, troop heavy screams cryx and mechanithralls. cryx has probably the least durability and shooting of all the warmachine factions and focuses on striking first, fast, and very hard. mechanithralls are the cheapest combat infantry in the game and can get much more vicious than their stat profile suggests.

Random note.
I did settle on one army, but don't let that fool you, I am forever pulled in different directions...each week, I keep telling myself I'm gonna start a new faction....and it rotates between all of them every week .
This week it's Garryth of Retribution. Last week it was eCaine or Siege of Cygnar. Previous to that was eMorghoul of Skorne, and before that was Grim of the Trollbloods.
But I do like my Cryx

okay thanks
I like the model range of Cygnar or Khador the most.
As for coolness..... i don't really know between the two Menoth Warcaster model look really cool , so is Cygnar. While for Khador the look okay, some of them like the butcher, karchev and the prince look cool.
As for Warjack i am partial to both Khador , although one or two Cygnar and Menoth model is cool
Definitely Jack heavy, considering what appeals to me in Warmachine is the small force of Big Hulking machine, rather than hundreds of troop, IMO it let me to look at my troop as a "troop" not statistics or numbers ( like oops 2 of my Firewarrior/ IG/Gaunts died), hence my wanting of a small elite force
I think my friend would like to take a look at Horde first, they are more appealing to him i guess, i am the more machine fans that he is

Man there is never any love for the merc factions. What could be more fun then beating on someone with an anchor, for heavy mining equipment...
Dont count infantry out. Some of the hardest hitting units in the game are infantry. I'm looking at you Forge Guard...

Red vs. Blue, quite the age old fist-fight.
If you like some Khador Jacks then pVlad is a good idea with them.
I personally like Strakov. Very cool model and makes jack fly. He's pretty infantry friendly as well.
p/ eButcher is the Butcher...everybodies favorite guy...though you don't want to stand next to him in his epic form when he gets choppy
For Cygnar I like the whole Siege/Defender combo and how he doesn't mind alot more mercs than Cygnar in his list heh.
eStryker is another thing I really like. He's definitely the jack of all trades. Supports a mix of jacks and infantry, while he himself can do shooting or combat work.
eCaine/Kraye are really annoying for the opponent, the whole hitting and running is pretty solid.

Yes. Epic basically means that they are what the characters grow up to be as the time line in the background advances.

Points limits for Warcasters only existed in Mk 1, in Mk 2 Warcasters add extra points to the army so you can always use them.

Though personally, I like more Khador stuff than Cygnar stuff, but eStrkyer is so damn flexible but more faction model oriented than my liking.

The Mercs ARE really cool, but the learning curve is a bit higher for a new player... Plus, the fluff isn't quite as deep as it is for the IK armies. Automatically Appended Next Post: Menoth! Play Menoth! Dammit! Too late?
