Hey Dakka, got a question for y'all. I've been scouting around, and not seeing anything, so I thought I'd ask. Anyone know of any good modern (1980-present) games? I saw the bit for Big P's "Red Tide" and thought it was awesome, but it was homebrewed rules, and I can't find a range of minis. Suggestions?

Not looking for 'Nam, but anything after is good

Kanlwen and I are working on developing a Skirmish game that will take place between 2015 (first release) and 2025 (final edition). We're looking for people to help develop it, and we've got a discount supplier picked out for ordering models. Check it out here:

Battlefield Evolution: Modern Combat is cool. Its modern/ultra modern. Although they do seem to spoil US with 2 army lists and multiple options but other armies are just as deadly

Ambush Alley is pretty fun, and there are lots of modern miniature manufacturers. Are you looking for a certain scale?

Not home-brewed exactly.

They were a set of mods to Rapid Fire 2 WW2 rules. Mods will be written up and submitted as an article to something! Great for larger games as its fast play.

Their is also Cold War Commander, but that is better suited to 6mm stuff (I have a ton of that stuff).

Other than that only one choice really for skirmish....

Force-on-Force: Ambush Alley

Lets you do platoon to company level actions... Trouble is you cant get a set now until its re-release by AAG and Osprey in April 2011.

Oh and Im AAG's Studio Manager so Im biased...

ambush alleys great . for that use 15mm . rebel minis has a great range for that game . i use 20mm platic 1/72 figs from ceasars minatures and 1/72 kits and pre painted vehicles . i use my own home grown 40k converted rules so regular every day people can just jump in .

Thanks for all your suggestions, Guess I should have been more specific. I didn't know there was so much out there. I'm looking for a full scale game, though skirmish works too, between the 15-28mm range.

Ambush Alley and Force on Force look great, what scale do you guys usually stick to with it? I'd try to recruit my friends, and it helps to say "this is what most people use".

@metallifan: Put in your thread I'd love to help

I'd say 15mm since 28mm full scale will

A. Be expensive

and

B. Hard to find certain models

OR you could use 1/72. Theres a ton of 1/72 modern stuff out there usually in affordable plastic
