Had mine today. I wouldnt exactly call it excruciating, but it does hurt a bit and it is constant. Only problem with my medication is that while it really tones down th hurting, im so stoned i can barely stay awake. Anyone here done this surgery as an adult?

One of my buddies saved up his meds from some dental surgery and got real messed up.
Is the pain similar to wisdom teeth removal?

If it is, then I wouldnt really call it pain. I had all 4 wisdoms removed at the same time. It was more of a dull pain that was just really annoying.
But Ive heard it feels like a really sore throat, and that sucks

My wife had it done along with the adnoids. She was out of commission for two weeks. Lost a ton of weight because she couldn't stand to eat anything but thin broth.
She said she'd rather give girth four times than do it again. I'm assuming that's bad.

Holy crap, that does sound bad. Not being able to eat would SUCK. I hated when my teeth were yanked out, because I could only eat pudding. And the irony there, is Im a fat guy, that hates pudding

Anything at all rasped against the huge gaping cauterized holes in her throat. I know, I had to check her voids every hour the first 24 to make sure she wasn't bleeding, which could kill her by drowning (YA!).
On a good note, she rarely gets sick any more (once every season minimum before) and I earned a metric crapton of brownie points for taking such great care of her. Mind you she was stoned out of her gourd a lot of the time.

Oh, yeah, had my wisdom teeth out. That was considerably CONSIDERABLY worse than the vasectomy.
I was pretty stoned on whatever they gave me, I got home, I felt pretty good. I felt so good I decided I didn't need to take meds. Woke up that night, feeling like somebody was driving nails into my jaw.
Took some oxycodone and felt much better.
They don't tell you that oxycodone backs up your gut, but they know it. I was supposed to be going in for a checkup, sitting on the can having problems, I call in to cancel. "I can't make it today." "Oh, ok. Constipated?" Like, damn lady, if you knew it was gonna happen, how about warn me? They make pills for that, too.
Also, the dry socket doesn't feel good either. I went in to the office to get some of that clove stuff shoved in there, and the guy was rooting around in there, I'm DYING, and the first time I flinch he goes directly to annoyed. "Quit SQUIRMING." I think I would have punched him in the face if I hadn't gotten to the parking lot by the time I realized he really did cop that attitude with me.

You've been really lucky then, it can be really bad, and over here you don't get any proper medication. I had mine when I was 15 and it was honestly one of the worst things I can remember. I was unconcsious for about 20 hours a day for a week and a half, spent most of the time awake uncontrollably shaking, and lost 2 1/2 stone in weight from not eating anything for the entire time. Luckily the thought of getting better then immediatly putting the doctors through the same thing kept me going.
She said she'd rather give girth four times than do it again. I'm assuming that's bad.
 Really bad.

Yea that was me. I couldnt eat "solid" food that soon, but I would just barely say it was annoying. Again the pudding thing.
And my dad had a friend that drowned exactly as you stated on his. Guy had a reaction to his meds, and passed out. Sad story

This is day three. One thing I am going to speak up about was what I considered poor postoperative treatment. I woke up from anaesthesia at what I called pain level five out of ten, which in my mind is pretty damn bad. The real problem was, however, that I wasnt able to swallow withou choking on my own fluid, which I wasnt able to communicate to the person responsible for my post op. After pointing to my throat and gagging, she finally came over and injected me with a pain drug, which wasnt really what I was concerned about, and she seemed irritated that I was taking time away from her other responsibilities and patients by being a big baby. Finally when my wife could see me I was able to get my point across and I had a much more receptive nurse at this point, so I was able to find out that I was given a medication during surgery that directly numbed my throat so i was very easy to choke on my own drainage. I wasnt told about thi and I think at very least the first person i saw should have been aware of it and assured me that i wasnt choking to death.
Othrwise, day one was deceptively comfortable, and I was even doing some light chores around the house. Fortunately I am aware that narcotics can cause constipation, so I prepared for that one. I dont know how that is going to turn out as I havent had any solid food in days so I havent passed anything. I was *not* aware, however, that my medication can cause one's prostate to swell, but that problem hasnt been insurmountable.
Day two and last night were pretty bad. I had been forewarned that day two was probably the worst day, so I was somewhat prepared. With the exception of yestrday and last night, the paint hasnt been nearly as bad as what I had heard, but I was having problems with nausea, dryness, and gagging on my own fkuids at night. That last one has probably been the biggest problem and is the big reason im very glad I havent felt the need for large amounts of painkiller.
If this works like they say it will, and I think it should, then it is definitely worth it. I would not agree to this surgery, however, unless I lived with someone who was willing and able to take cate of you. I wouldnt consider it safe, prsonally. I would not be able to do this without my wife.

I had tonsils, adenoids out at the same time when I was 6, but the ENT also fixed up a related hearing issue while he was there.
My wife's family still have theirs. All of them. Country folk don't believe in just yanking them out. There's more money to be made treating the recurring issues.
Tonsillitis is a recurrent one for her and her family.
