Hello Dakka,

over the past months i´ve ebyed me a small bunch off nids. so far i´ve got some symbionts and hormagants and termagants and three warriors and also some absorbers (in german called...)

so now i ´m searching for a cheap possability to have a HQ unit so i might field these models one day...
cheap, is meant in terms of money. for now i dont want to spend the money on a hive tyrant from gw...so i´m looking for either a cheap replacement from other producers or might try one myself although my greenstuff poewrs are for now non existing...

What about a Broodlord? eBay for the Space Hulk Broodlord, it's amazing. It's not all that expensive, and it will look amazing at the head of your horde.

i have an old codex which list the broodlord as hp choice... on the gw site i did a quick search but there you only get the tyrant and the guard as an option. i´m a bit unsure, what to do...

Few things. The broodlord model is about the size of a termi, pretty much an upright genestealer. Warriors are taller and a bit wider. But the thing is that in the new codex the broodlord is NOT an HQ choice, he is an upgrade for a genestealer squad.

Personally I would use a Tyranid Prime, this is from the new codex and is a beefed up warrior. So easy to model and cheap.

If you want a HQ to you from the previous codex I would just run a squad of warriors as your HQ.

These choices are good for small point games, if you go larger pretty much 1500 plus then a Hive Tyrant is a need

Eh, not really. To be perfectly honest, a good portion of the competitive Nid lists you see these days don't feature Hive Tyrants.


However, I do agree that the Tyranid Prime would be a good option for a cheap HQ choice. Just convert a Warrior. However, if you really want a HT to the point where you'd be willing to make one from scratch (a very big undertaking, if you ask me) why not just look for a cheap one on eBay?

@ Fallenbourne: the idea to convert a warrior is a really good thing. where can i found the stats of that monster? i only own a last edition codex, and it isnt shown there...

@ Darth Bob: I searched for HT at ebay but latley there is no luck in auctions... my main armee SM still lacks a landraider, but they are so expensive on ebay eaven with a crappy paintjob...at the moment i´m wirking on a scratchbuilt one. as for scratchbuiling a HT or more likley somthing that looks beefy and tyranid like i want to try to do soo by using fimo and doing one part at atime., and then glue them afterwards together...

If you don't have the money for the new dex I'm sure that if you play within a group of friends they'll be fine to let you use the older version.

The stats for the prime is only in the new codex, it didnt exist in the previous dex. But as for a statline and options, download Armybuilder and get the newest datafiles. That way you can have the statline, points, and options for everything. The only downfall is that not all of the rules or special rules are explained in Armybuilder. I.e. synapse and instinctive behavior changed and Armybuilder doesn't tell you what they do.

Armybuilder has a free trial but you cant print rosters and add more than 3 squads to a roster, probably a few other things but in not sure.

Make a tervigon or find one for say. They are pretty good.

tervigons are also HQ choice? might consider that as an option...

Yes, they can only be taken as a troop choice if you have a unit of termagaunts already.

Here is a pic of a Broodlord right next to a Warrior. The Warrior I converted to a Prime by adding boneswords. Basically, they are spinefists with a scything talon green-stuffed on top.

well i bought a dragon on ebay and some bits in a bitsshop... i will eventually post my endeavors to built a suitable hive tyrant^^. it will be quite big, but sometimes you just have do do big^^
