For those that may have missed it, there is now a micro-transaction version of Everquest 2 and Lord of the Rings Online. If you are looking for a decent but free MMO you might want to check them out.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

LOTR has been free to play for...3 years now? Same with D&D. You just paid in if you wanted to open up some classes and whatnot.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

Sounds, interesting. I think it would cooler if more dwindling MMO's got to be free. But then that would be a waste of server space I suppose. Thats why Tabula Rasa got pulled a few months back I think

Uh, no it hasn't. Don't know what you were playing but LotRO just went f2p like DDO this past week to previous subscribers. They didn't actually need to go F2P either as LotRO was doing fairly well but felt that it might grow the base even more. The head start (for previous subscribers) for the new micro-transaction model just started September 8th 2010. In case you miss it, that was just a few days ago, not years. I have no idea what game you are talking about, but it isn't LotRO.

Hmm, now that I think about it it could have been the 10 day trial for LotR I was thinking of. DDO has definitely been free for a year or two now though - most of my WoW guild migrated there waiting for the Northrend expansion. Some of the classes and dungeons were restricted, but you could get along fine without putting a dime into it. Seems like you could even earn points that would allow you to unlock the paid stuff if you put an ungodly amount of time into it.

LOTRO is just... I don't know it was awesome for the first hour, then the lack of things to do and the choppiness makes me get frustrated and not want to play.

The buyable things won't enhance it as much as it needs to be. Since half of them are temporary.
