Heya,

A somewhat multi-faceted question, but I figure it's most suited to the P&M Section.

I'm thinking of converting some Chaos Cultists, just for fun. I'll be using the Empire Flagellant Warband as a base...

... and then some Forgeworld Renegade Militia Weapon Arms...

... to complete the '40k' Look. I'll probably get 2 Boxes of Flagellants, and 1 Set of Weapon Arms. I also have various Leftover Parts from the Chaos Knights Box which could make for some interesting conversions.

I was just wondering if anybody had any further suggestions for boxes or bits which would be good to use?

Also, am I right in thinking that there aren't any Rules for Cultists? If so, what should I use them as? Lesser Daemons?

I love the Flagellants, I may use them at some point to make Plaguebearers.

The model idea is sound and as for cultist rules, the nearest you can get nowadays is the Vraks list.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Cheers for the encouragement.

I was a little concerned that the Militia Weapon Arms have some Armour Plates, most of them near the Shoulders, but I suppose they can just be 'Shoulder Pads'?

And the Rules... I'll check those out, thanks.

I already have some flagellants to use as marauders. I think they are some of the best GW models out there and deserve to be used as often as possible.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

I did something similar to these using cadian arms. You may find the arms don’t look quite right, a bit too bulky compared with the rest of the model.

As an Alpha Legion player I used to use lots of cultists. The renegade militia guys are kind of neat but I never really got a chance to use mine before the re-write. Most of my cultists are old Frateris Militia from the SOB army and miscellaneous models I found in my local gaming store's used minis bin.
Necromunda gangers rock too. I've never found a Necromunda ganger that I couldn't fit right into either my Imperial Guard or as a cultist. Most game stores have a discount section for used minis, search it often. I have lots of non GW guys from there too and it breaks up the uniformity to give them more of a rag-tag look. Any non-standard weapons can be written off as locally produced autoguns/stubbers.
As far as rules, I don't know nything to help you with. My friends let me use my old chaos codex if I want to but that doesn't help in formal play

For the Emperor! Kill Maim Burn!... I mean purge the unclean!

Cawdor gang pack from GW - £20

Cawdor gang booster pack (3 models) - £8.50

Delaque gang pack - £23

Redemptionists gand pack - £25

While not the cheapest, the necromunder gangers seem pretty solid for cultists.

Just make sure you have enough militia arms for every model as they don't mix and match with the original arms.
The flagellant arms are bulkier than the militia arms and will look bad used on the same model.

As far as rules go FW has some chaos militia rules here.
And you'll need the FAQ (here) as the list has many errors and forgotten options.
