Hey ho!

Just been looking through the Tomb Kings Army Book and I have to admit it makes me want to start an army, I love the whole look and feel to them!
I love the "It came from beneath rule.." for Tomb Scorpions and Tomb Swarms especially since they can charge and engage on the first turn they arrive!

So i have a few questions to ask really!

1)What's the best way to equip bog standard skeletons?..Spear and Shield?...Bow?

2)What are the best HQ choices available?..I really like Liche High Priest with Casket of Souls, the "Light Of Souls" rule at the end of magic phase targeting EVERY enemy in LOS sounds amazing to me!

3)Are Ushbati, Tomb Guard and Bone Giants good special choices?..Or would it be worth just bulking out the core further?

4)Are Skeleton Cavalry worth it?..They seem rather Fragile!

5)I mentioned "Screaming Skull Catapults" to a friend and he groaned that they were so over-powered and broken most tournies don't allow them, is that true?..It seems a bit unfair TK, would get something that broken if so!

Not allow them!!!
Come on its like the only thing the TK have left that dosen't suck ass in comparison to other armies. Well that and the incantation system which tends to work better than regular magic sometimes.
Just think about it skeletons are weaksauce, crumbly and with the new fear rules severely nerfed, and you need to take at least 25% of you'r army as them. You're right for the chariots they are fragile altho some skilled players can still make use of thei'r speed and relative cheapness as compared to the chariots of other races. Scorpions are indeed amazing the pop up and charge thing is awesome not to mention this ed they got the stomp. Bone giants are also much better with the new thunderstomp rule but seeing as they're compeeting for points with catapults not much table time is seen with them.
I would suggest you just wait till the rumored new TK book is released sometime next year.

Bows bows bows

+5 to hit is the best they could ever do, which isnt much!

Pretty much bulk out on specials and rares. Rather have a TK than a High Priest but your call

1. Depends on what your trying to achieve - bowmen are pretty good, although if you want a big block for points denial thats good too. Just don't expect them to really win combats.

2. Depending on the size of the game (2250-2500 usually), a High Priest and a Tomb King are optimal. Depending on how you want to run them, 2 Tomb Kings can work. The Casket got alot more survivable now in 8th with a better statline, but the leadership beam - eh. General's leadership and having BSBs allow rerolls makes it not really worth it in my opinion - plus your stuck in one place, vulnerable to alot of stuff.

3. Ushbati no. Tomb Guard - can be. Bone Giants - hit or miss. Ushbati are just too darn expensive for what you get. Bone Giants - thunderstomp really helps, but still WS3. Tomb Guard - nice bunker for your general and are brought back easier. Lack of armor still hurts them.

4. Skel Cav just depends on how you use them - not being able to march hurts, but then again move them 7-8 or whatever, then use incantations to get them in the same turn.

5. Screaming Skulls were the bread and butter of 7th edition tomb kings - they could usually get off 4 shots a turn (2 in magic phase, 2 in shooting phase). With catapults being nerfed (less str and allowing AS), I don't think they're that bad. They're still good for killing big stuff (stegs, enemy warmachines, etc), which is what they excelled at in 7th, but less effective against armored blocks of troops.

Tomb King magic is scary good in that you really can't stop all their spells (unless your set up with alot of bonus dispel dice in your army), but it doesn't have the same spectacular results that the new lores do. What does it really excel at : allowing units to make extra attacks and moving your army into combat really, really fast. Chariot armies, for example, can get in combat turn 1 if the rolling is good enough. Everything else - eh.

They are tempting to play, but with the new book supposedly coming out in spring of next year, I'd hesitate to buy them.

Well since we don't know when it's coming out (since Orcs are generally accepted to be in January or February) and they usually don't go back to back, you could run them as is from now till at least March or April - thats not too bad.
