1. Do drones counted as "embarked" when a devilfish blows up- meaning if he kills my devilfish, he gets 2 KP, possibly 3 if a unit is still in it?

2. Can drones from a vehicle join up with a unit of crisis suits? Like instead of taking them with a drone controller, can I join the "embarked" drones (assuming that answer to #1 is yes)?

I ask these questions because I felt pretty cheated in a KP tournement game last week. It doesnt seem fair at all that I should lose 2-3 KP on a vehicle that costs 80 points. Because lets get real, if he busts open a devilfish, he is destroying the firewarriors and the drones almost immediately, and if it is the case that they are worth 2-3 KP, any player with a brain is going to be targetting everyone on the field and getting those cake points. Pretty dumb, no one else has this kind of problem where they involentarily give up a KP. Tyranids get the choice of respawning their stuff even.

EDIT: What I mean on question #1 is that when he blew up my DF, i had to roll to see if he killed my GDs also. Exploding vehicles are pretty good drone killers.

1) They disembark when it is blown up. He would have to kill the drones seperately, or as part of the explosion. Which means 2KP for the devil fish if you take drones. Take burst cannon.
2) No, because they dont have the "independent charactrer" special rule, therefore have no permission to join units.

Altho an IC crisis suit could join the drones to use as meatshields.

this is why Devilfish are too expensive.

if you take them they will be 3 KPs(1 for the FWs, 1 for the Fish and 1 for the drones)

It costs points to drop the drones, but drones are next to worthless anyway. Do yourself a favor and cook you up some Warfish (Devilfish w/ Targeting Array, Multi-Tracker, Disruption Pods and Smart Missile Systems). It's essentially an anti-infantry tank for 120 points. Not cheap, but not outrageous either. They make for some decent anti-horde firepower and don't give up an extra KP when their drones are bumped off.

And it's really not as easy to kill embarked Fire Warriors as you all are making it sound. My 'fish get popped from time to time, I have NEVER had more than two die in the ensuing explosion. The S3 hit wounds on a 4+, so out of a unit of 10, statistically 5 will take wounds, then they get their 4+ armor save, so statistically 2-3 are going to fail their saves. If he manages to kill 3, they take a leadership check (which at Ld 8 you've got a 2/3 chance of passing), but that's as bad as it gets.

And my Warfish are always very killy.

Warfish are my best friend, that's all I can say.

You're right, my bad.

Alright, so 7-8 of them are going to take wounds, 3-4 failed armor saves.

Only a very mildly worse outcome.

Still doesn't result in more than one KP.

You have a 25% chance to lose each individual model in the DF. Say you have 6 firewarriors, you are probally losing 1-2. With the drones you will probally lose 1 if any.

That being said, the possibility that you can lose them all (which I have) is freaking ridiculas. I ussually run SMS and will never run drones again. I guess that's the take home lesson, hah

You have a better than 25% chance actually; 2/3*1/2 = 1/3rd chance.
