can I ask what you use for the very fine work? I cant find a brush pointy enough for the very small detail.

I've used two brushes for non-drybrush/stippling work for pretty much the last year solidly - both Windsor & Newton Series 7. A size 1 for most work, and a 00 for detail work. The point is generally a factor of brush quality and how well you look after it. GW brushes at the moment are OK quality. Drybrushes etc are a mix of old / retired brushes from various sources.

I found it particularly interesting you did the base first or very early on, do you always do that?

mmm I think part of the problem is the maintenance of my brush - Its fine for the first 4-5 miniatures but then starts to fray a little and bend over. I know winsor and newton and their larger brushes are good so Maybe I will have a look at the smaller ones. Thanks

I did the base very early to get into a woodland vibe before painting the elf.

I got round to varnishing and doing the groundwork on the plinth I made for her yesterday. My rudimentary woodwork skills notwithstanding, I think it came out alright. And I only cut myself with the chisel once.

The silver, from black;
Boltgun metal blended to chainmail
Edges with mithril silver
Shade down using boltgun / asurmen blue glazes
The inner side uses some reddish brown to reflect the hair.
Shade down more with black glazes
A coat of klear floor polish to shine it up and give a smooth reflective surface - it hides the flakiness of the metal pigment quite well.

The gold, from scorched brown;
Scorched brown VMC bronze
VMC bronze
VMC old gold
VMC old gold / mithril silver
Edge highlight with mithril silver
