I was thinking of playing Fantasy in 7th edition, and read the rules through, but never got to playing.
Now...
I've looked over the 8th rulebook, but I'm still confused on a few points.

In 7th, I thought charging let you strike first. Is that gone in 8th? Isn't that a radical charge for armies like Lizardmen?

In 7th, the Magic pool was really different. For 8th rules, do individual wizards contribute at all to the pool besides Channelling? Magic seems less reliable than it was before. is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

Correct - you strike in init order. Yes, it's a pretty big change, but "stepping up" helps slower models stay in the fight.

Just channeling. And yes, for many armies, it's a little less reliable (3 dice this turn, 11 next...); some armies have options to help mitigate that, e.g., by adding extra dice to the power pool.

Take a Life Slaan, cast regen and / or Flesh to Stone (extra T) - now watch as your lizards stick around....oh, and try blocks of 50. MMMM horde mode....

Yes, while the number of dice you have is far more variable, and the maximum you can have is, well a maximum (no maximum previously) magic IS more powerful than previously, and even a lowly level 2 can cast wih many more dice than previously. Just watch out for IF and the miscast it brings...
