Subject: Leg cramp from hell! To walk it off or to let it rest?
This morning woke up and positioned myself to stand up. The moment I started swinging my legs I had the sudden intense urge to vomit and I was terribly puzzled. As my legs hit the ground without even applying pressure my left calf exploded in pain and I had to make a massive Fortitude save to avoid being nauseated. I began rubbing the knot (about the size of two golf balls side by side) that was just below the reverse of my knee vigorously but I could feel it tightening more and all I was doing was slowing it down. After about a minute and a half of birthing children it stopped passively hurting. I can stumble on it now but it still hurts to apply any pressure. Basically, should I try to work it out or should I rest it? This particularly sucks because I was supposed to be moving stuff around at work today. While we're at it, anyone else have any good questions/stories to share in the same vein?
Worship me.

Careful, leg cramps can be caused by a variety of reasons, including reactions to medication.
Or gophers.

bed Gophers or wall gophers frazz? bed Gophers aren't too bad they are quite sluggish especially in the morning when this injury appears to have happened, but if it's a wall Gopher then he may be in trouble? if they take a dislike to you and scuttle down the wall then you do need to have your wits about you to avoid them, especially if they manage to get their teeth onto you, I hear they particulary like just behind the knee? coincidence?...I think not!

I forgot to log in and there were some interesting ads in the advert above this thread. You may want to try this old Amish remedy, guaranteed to cure leg cramps in under a minute!

Worst cramp I've ever had was so bad I didn't have any feeling in my leg at all. It happened while i was sleeping, so I didn't notice it when I woke up. I stood up, and my leg completely collapsed under me. That was unpleasent.
I always let it rest, unless I'm in a hurry to do something. Then I'll limp it off while I'm cursing.

if your Apothecary does happen to be nearby, I believe you could ask him nicely to shoot the wall Gopher as that's what I believe caused your ailment, and if you actually see a wall gopher or Apothecary then you need to stop smoking weed now!

I spent an hour in the weights room at the gym yesterday morning after three hours of sleep and bit of a hangover. I was fine until I stopped and my blood pressure dropped... then I nearly passed out and was nauseous for about half an hour.
Oh, and my legs hurt.
Try dancing it out. I've been looking for an excuse to post this anyway.

Ha, the weed is likely to be a once a year kind of occurrence.
@dj: Ugh, been there. It's always up for debate whether the potential of your leg twisting some random direction it shouldn't or you smacking the ground will cause more damage.

I've been playing a ton of DDR lately and I have been on hiatus for a couple of days. Could stopping vigorous activity suddenly be a factor?

Try walking. If it keeps up you need to go to the emergency room.

Yeah, and don't go crazy with a grinding self-massage either - at this point you'll just make it worse. In all seriousness you're better off just gently stretching and resting it - let someone who knows what they're doing poke it.
I lived with a guy who had a natural leg cramp (he was just sitting there) that actually tore his muscle below the back of his knee and it took a fair while to heal up. So this came out of absolutely nowhere? Have you ever torn a muscle? If so, would you describe it as that magnitude of pain? Pretty random, but I know it's possible.

I can hobble on it now, it just gets worse after about 20 steps. Full extension feels like hell so I'm having to keep it slightly bent. i know I've strained stuff before, but I have a reasonable pain tolerance and like I said it was enough to make me want to vomit. There were a couple of seconds there where I had no idea what I was going to do. I've done lots of walking, running and aroebicness and have great endurance so I don't know where it would come from really. My only thought is the super intensive DDR sessions stopping for a couple of days. If I could score a vicodin off a friend would that actually help or just seem like it helped?
Edit: and to avoid further de-rail of the other thread, there's another pic of me at facebook.com/cannerus so you can locate my chin I don't have much fat on me, but unfortunately I have a little beneath my face for no good reason.

Vicodin is just a painkiller, right? It'll help pain. It's not an anti-inflammatory. Take a couple ibuprofen (during the day when you can stretch a bit, not when you're about to go to bed) and it might ease the problem rather than just half block it out... it does sound pretty nasty though.
Oh, and please... the other thread is about African penis hygiene. It badly needs derailing. Instead, though, I'm going to go and play Blood Bowl for the next four hours.

On the tail end of a 40 mile bike ride that was over half up hill, I wasn't hydrating as much as I should have been, and I got the worst charlie horse in my upper right thigh. I was stuck, holding on to my bicycle, with my leg lifted like a male dog about to take a piss. I couldn't move it at all, if I did, I got some of the worst pain ever. Then, due to my leg being in that position, I got another godlike charlie horse in my calf. So here I am, looking like a freak, on the sidewalk, standing, holding my bike, with two charlie horses....I couldn't move...I was so frustrated I wanted to cry. Eventually after doing very minor stretches I eased them out. I was on top of East Madison in Seattle, so I was able to essentially coast all the way down into downtown. When I was almost back to my place they both suddenly flared up again...I fell off my bike....crashed....
