Hello again everyone,

Ok so new question. In a match at or below 1850 which is better for troop transport battlewagons or trucks. I am of the opinion that due to several diffferences between the two that mix/matching is not the best course of action.

-First trucks and battlewagons have a 6 inch difference in speed which may not seem like alot but can be the difference in turn 2 vs turn 3 assault.
-While battlewagons have superior armor they are still susceptible to all of the hi str weapons in nearly every armies list on a side/rear shot. This means that screening is a absolute must along with duplicating the number of wagons in a list. Where 1 single wagon would be a certain kill by itself , three or more are much much safer. This also means in a low point game wagons used for transport kinda prevent trucks being used as well.
- The same can be said of trucks. With their exceptionally poor armor values their best save is redundacy. Where 2-3 trucks are a waste of points 5 or 6 can be formidable. Given a BM KFF save it is doubtful all 5-6 trucks will get poped on turn 1 and the payload should be delivered by turn 2. Of course some of these trucks will be poped so the cargo must be as inexpensive as possible. This means in a truck list truckboyz are mandatory with no nobz or burnas. The chances of a nob/burna truck being gibbed and wasting those points are way too high.

So i quess I'm seeing to kind of lists forming. Following Dash's rule of orky themes there are two ways to go

Battlewagon:
4 wagons
- 1 with nobz
- 1 with burnas
- 2 with shoota boyz
problem with this list is 40 boyz are definately on the low side for the core of a ork list, and filling the gap with a footsloggin unit is a no go and at 1850 not sure that 2 trucks which are almost certainly to be insta gibbed is a fix either.

Trucks:
5 truck squads each with 12 slugga boyz nob pk bosspole screened by bikes
squad of grots
stormboyz at 20 with pk nob screened by trucks
Now while this list has the neccassary core of boyz and travels across the board at the same speed, not sure it has the needed punch to get the killing done. would not take nob bikers in this case due to them being a point sink in this case. (NB's are great but they usually go better in their own themed list)

So fellow dakkainits, which is the better theme, how do i shore up the glaring weaknesses from either case. Or am I completely wrong and should just mix/match and learn to screen the soft bits better.

I go with 3 fully loaded BW and 3 fully loaded trukks and 2 big meks. Trukks do really have tinfoil armor. I've had many trukks popped by bolter fire so its nice to have the beefiness of the BW. Also more room to hold boyz=more boyz to get stuck in. I'd say at least have 2 BW and fill the rest out with trukks. I would mix and match and keep those trukks behind the BW for reinforcements. Things work out best for trukk and wagon boyz if they all attack at once so try and screen the trukks as best you can until its killing time.

Generally I agree with Norwolf. Bunch them up behind or around the BWs and they will either have KFF protection or concealed by the BWs.

A trukk boy squad is a one-hit wonder. 3 trukk boy squads backed up by 15 burna boyz, and two 20 boy mobz should be able to overwhelm an enemy.

If you want cheap a warboss and nobz squad that is not all decked out can be hard hitting and not over priced as well as being a troop choice. Have to figure the points but say... 3 trukk boyz. Big Mek + 15 burna boyz in one wagon. 20 'Ard Boyz in the second wagon and Warboss with 10 nobz in the 3rd wagon. Just watch out going overboard on it or you will have 800 points sunk in it quick.

I might be alone, but I think putting the Big Mek and 15 Burna Boyz in one wagon is putting too many eggs in one basket. Your opponent is sure to try to paste that one wagon, and eliminate your KFF save for the Wagons that will advance.

And why wouldn't they? Shooting a 50+ template shots and a KFF target is a no brainer. I suppose if you kitted out all three wagons they'd have to choose, though.

Anyways I agree that past 1500 adding 3 Trukks or so is a good option to get your boyz across the table - just screen them as best you can.

5 Trukks + Grots and Stormboyz FTW!

Terrible post grammar aside, I was so happy when you wrote that, because that is exactly my list and I love it so much! I only really struggle against Nids with it because it's very anti-mech (as far as Orks go) and hormagaunts pose a serious threat to 12 boyz. As long as you send at least two trukks at anything that needs to die, you should do great with that list.

it should look familar i stole it from you im pretty sure on one of the army list posts. still the question remains does this list have enough ooomph. should the trucks be screened by two squads of bikes , or perhaps 1 full 10man squad and a buggie squad. plus with the trucks as core any heavy choices? pretty sure id go with pure lootas for elites. and finnally is a KFF a waste of points here increasing the surviveability of tissue paper gives you not much. i think im seeing 2 warbosses on bikes instead
