Probly been asked but couldnt find any info regardming my question.

Is it better to try accuratly get washes in the crevices or should you just slather the model in the wash??

I ask this because after a small test the badab black pretty much made my necron abyss lose part of its brightness, even tho its a dark colour lol.

depends on your purpose, really. you can treat a wash like a shading coat and just put it where you want it to be darker, but then you might as well blackline the crevice; a little more laborious but saves you time ultimately by saving you doing multiple coats.

however, if you're worried about how the black wash darkened high areas, just go back over them in the original color and leave the dark where it should be dark.

What he said... the GW washes are very 'smart'... they know just where to sit on your model more-or-less. The easiest way to use them is to cover the entire model, and then if you need to, go over your base color again on the flatter and highlight surfaces.

Just be careful with the 'wash the entire model' approach as it i does have the tendancy to pool on flat surfaces quite oddly if you dont pay attention...

I've had to repaint so many quickwashed marine legs because the middle of the shinpad is brown from the wash and the edges are white

Really depends on what you're washing, what wash you're using, and your intent.

For crons, I'd wash the whole thing and then de-drybrush your main color carefully. For everything else, it's situational.

New-style inks leave a matte finish.
Metallics look best when shiney so either drybrush back the base colour or apply satin or gloss varnish.
Also I advise watering down all washes and adding a bit of acrylic flow-aid.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
