I was reading my bretonian book (which i havent picked up in a while) and wrote a list i think could be competative, i mean i proxyed with a mate who plays high elves to test it and i killed teclis and 31 pheonix guard with one spell! xD dwellers from below ftw.
I Came across the green knight which i have always liked. i thought.. with him being able to dissapear in forests and reappear in any other forest terain and the ethrel rule, i could go hunt me some war machines.
And then i looked again at how you kill him (lets not have a disscussion about he cannot actually die) he takes a wound for every point he loses combat by, so if my enemy was clever and charged him.. they wouldnt get attacks back.. but theres only so much you can kill with his attacks.. the fact that your enemy will have +ranks and + banner + charging will get him killed on that charge.. i personally think that is just stupid, sure he can take warmachine after warmachine but really? If he gets charged by an infantry squad hes toast -.-
anyone think of a way that hes not so crap?

Not all special characters get to be Teclis. Some of them are crap under the 8th edition rules.

Bretonnians weren't even updated in 7th edition. Their book needs a major overhaul along with tomb kings.

I Think they can be played very well, though it takes alot more thinking about moves, it becomes a huge game of chess.
But For anyone reading this thread and not understanding why he dies to combat res, its because he doesnt run away but he loses a wound for every point hes beaten by in combat with no saves of any kind allowed.
but i agree they need an overhaul as some of there stuff is just obsolete now.

Sooooo dont let him get charged by a big block of infantry...
Thats like bitching that your ethereal vampire cant run into a big block of infantry and safely hack them all to bits cause they cant wound him.

If you are going to charge any single model, be it monsterous creature or special knight, into a unit it better be tied up in combat with one of your units already. Especially with that wounding rule you need the combat res that only a unit can supply.

I was thinking about using him to go war machine hunting. he should always win combat.. even if he doesnt cause any wounds he gets +1 for charging so.. and im sure hell kill atleast one.

the green knight seems to have a very specific role of hunting small units and some monsters, if you can get him behind enemy lines turn one they will either have to divert a character or wizard to try and kill him (and not die in return) and he's T4 I6 sv 2+ / 5++ it won't be easy, and if they don't you get to basically take out a warmachine or unit of archers a turn, i'd use him as a gurilla fighter distracting the enemy while the rest of the army moves up and into position. using him to hit blocks of infantry is a no no even in older editions one bad round of attacks and you can die to combat res.

If you charge the Green Knight headlong into an infantry block unsupported he will die. So... don't do that. Pair him up with a good-sized lance, send him into the other guy's backfield, assassinate wizards, flank charge cavalry, whatever, but DON'T expect him to reap through steadfast blocks of infantry. He won't do it for long.
Just like any other character in 8E.

This is what you use flying knights for, the Green Knight is so expensive it's ridiculous.

Or you could save those points and buy three trebuchets or a large unit of Pegasus Knights. Hell even mounted yeoman can accomplish his role better than he can.

yep overcosted the green knight has the same cost as 5 peg knights (no upgrades) and the peg knights die easier, they are also limited to 0-1 choice unless you want a a lord on peg to take extra units, mounted yeomen can also take out war machines if they are left un guarded but i question their staying power. so yes i would use him in the same way as the flying knights unless i had a lord on peg who'd be doing the same role just expanded to charcters too.
the real problem with the green knight is he still eats up lord choices (1/2 allotment at 2200) and now that bretonnian magic is much more fun don't you want to take your custom bretonnian lord and a phrophetess of the lady.

I don't want to hear any complaining about the cost of the green knight- Orion (for wood elves) has the exact same special rule, and with his hounds he's over 600 points
If you take him for coolness reasons, you just have to keep him away from blocks, or like others have said, pair him with a unit / multi-charge.
Requires you to think ahead and be very tactical, but I've heard people here who really like using the green knight. Ymmv, of course!

His wild riders are even worse. "Beserker elves, lithe and unarmored flying through the woods on a hunt! How many attacks should we give them?"
"One?"
"One's good."

This guy sounds a bit vunerable to attack if you ask me Lordoflife.
but then again i dont know his full potential.
but against an army that has many core units its gonna be hard to keep him out of combat.
and from what you say that would be slaughter for him.

Yeh the issue is my two main oponents would be skaven and empire, and my empire friend is very mage happy. and skaven is. skaven. i think i dont want him tbh.. i really like his background and rules but, i intend to use 2 lvl 4 prophetesses so ill take a paladin on a pegasus with the jousting vow so i can charge archers or war machines and reroll hits

If you're going to use him warmachine hunting just try to keep him behind infantry or near units that take forever to turn around, and withing 8 inches so they can't march, a horde of any sort, for instance, defied it's march will take like two or three turns to wheel around any significant amount.

The unit can just re-form to face him, and if they have a musician and pass a leadership check, they can still move at half their normal movement speed (not half marching). So I don't think that's going to work...
Also, they could still march (without reforming) just by passing a leadership check.
