Hello there,

Basically me and my friends are looking at getting into WHFB after a long time playing 40K, i wanted to see what kind of force i could come up with for 1000pts based on the Batallion set, i have added the Marauder horsemen to bring the points up and i have the chaos soucerer from games day, here is what i came up with.

Heroes

Sorcerer
Mark of Tzeentch
Level 2
Power Familiar

Heroes Total = 165

Core

Chaos Warriors x12
Mark of Tzeentch
Champion
Standard
Musician
Halberds x12

Marauders x20
Mark of Tzeentch
Shields x20
Champion
standard
Musician

Marauder Horsemen x5
Mark of Tzeentch
Champion
Spears x5
Throwing axes x5

Warhounds x10
Poisoned attacks x10

Core Total = 584

Special

Chaos Knights
Mark of Tzeentch
Musician
Standard

Special Total = 250

Army Total = 999

I realise that Mark of Tzeentch is not the best for some of these units and that with it the warriors would probably be better with sheilds but i already have the halbeards and the mark is really there for thematic reasons, so what do people think?

Its a good list since your new to fantasy, i would split the hounds into 2 units of 5 and loose the poison attacks there mainly there to give your units abit of cover.

With the marauders give them flails it makes a fairly weak unit potentialy quite strong, and drop the shields. I would keep the marauder horsmen cheap and expendable so just take 5 of them with throwing axes and maybe a musician.

With the left over points you want a champion for your knights and more marauders there best in 30+ size units

Actually, warriors with shields AND halberds have great utility (esp with MoT). Poinson attacks, throwing axes, and unti champions should be the first to go to make points for this.

Since your only character is a sorcerer you should consider taking a Lvl 3 or 4 if you can. Dropping all unit champs will be well worth it if you get a Lvl 4 Sorcerer at 1000pts and it will hopefully offset your lack of choppy characters.

Nice list.

You know he has to use the Halberds, and never the HWs, right?

The sorc lord is 235 points base and making it a level 4 is 20 points too many for Lords.

With only one wizard and +3 to cast, I don't think you really need the powerfamiliar. Better to kit him with a ward save and more armor since he is your general.

Core

Chaos Warriors x12
Mark of Tzeentch
Champion
Standard
Musician
Halberds x12

Fine, a magic banner would be nice though. The Raptourous Standard is awesome. The blasted banner would really keep this unit from dieing, but it is expensive.

Marauders x20
Mark of Tzeentch
Shields x20
Champion
standard
Musician

You don't need a champ here.

Marauder Horsemen x5
Mark of Tzeentch
Champion
Spears x5
Throwing axes x5

Go with a musician instead of a champ. Swift Reform ftw!

Warhounds x10
Poisoned attacks x10

Hounds=mobile hard cover. Keep them cheap.

Core Total = 584

Just don't go charging into the fronts of ranked units and expect to win all the time. Better to go for the flanks and facer fewer attacks back. +1 armor is awesome, but not infailable

Hey Guys,

thanks a bunch for the replys,

i wanted the sheilds on the marauders for the 5+ ward save with MoT, i understand that flails give me that +2 S in the first round but i belive i wont be able to use a sheild with them, i have gone with light armour for the 5+/5+ and dropped the champions as advised, here is the list.

Heroes

Sorcerer
Mark of Tzeentch
Level 2
Armour of Morrislieb (with MoT this gives me a 4+ armour and a 3+ ward against Non magical attacks right?)
Spell familiar

Heroes Total 190

Core

Chaos Warriors x12
Mark of Tzeentch
Champion
Standard
Musician
Halberds x12

Marauders x20
Mark of Tzeentch
Shields x20
Light Armour x20
standard
Musician

Marauder Horsemen x5
Mark of Tzeentch
Musician
Spears x5
Throwing axes x5

Warhounds x5

Warhounds x5

Core Total 560

Special

Chaos Knights x5
Mark of Tzeentch
Musician
Standard

Special Total 250

Instead of the armor of morrislieb, why not the talisman of endurance? One less ward save but it can protect against magic attacks

Ohh thats not a bad idea, thanks and with the spare points i could get the Biting Blade as well the extra -1 armour save could be well worth it.

I'm most likely going to be mainly playing against armies built up from the Isle of Blood box so HElfs and Skaven, is there anything I should watch out for?

HE Swordmasters. Whittle them way down before you make contact because they will mess your army up. Point Flickering Fire at them first. Treason of Tzeentch is funny as hell to cast at Swordmasters too. "Stop hitting yourself silly pointy-ears!"

If you'll be going up against HE armies with the knights being a pretty expensive unit perhaps looking into the ward save vs shooting banner if you can juggle points for it.
