I'm going to play a game later with a guy who plays Blood Angels, I was wondering what my best bet at winning would be? It would be at 1,000 Points, and I'm pretty sure he runs Squads of Death Company in Razorbacks or Rhinos. And to be honest...I have no clue on how to take out BA. Anyone care to share some advice?

I play Space Marines (Vanilla Codex) if you didn't get it from the title.

Meltaguns, Powerweapons, and lots of fasting and prayer.

Oh and bringing your own Rhinos doesn't hurt either.

Well, I'd take a Librarian w/ terminator armor, storm shield, nullzone, *,
10 Termies w/ 2 cyclones, and
2 Tacticals.

Stay back and play defensely. Slow down his advance by popping his transports.
This gives you time to reposition, if necessary.

* Crack his rhino at range. Death company are much less scary when they are footslogging. Typhoons are great at this.

* Deny FNP. AP1, AP2, or STR 8 weapons are your friends. He will probably rely on his FNP to keep em alive. Typhoons again are good

* Don't try to outwrestle the bear. Don't go into assault with him (with maybe the exception of TH/SS termies), instead use ranged troops.

* 2/3 of the games are objective based. Don't forget this and get led into a slaughter in the middle of the board.

* The other 1/3 of games are based on KP. If you want to win, be 1 KP ahead of the other player

* Stay in your rhinos as long as possible.

My favorite list to play when I play defensively is usually with..

Librarian

ELITE:

TROOPS:
Tac Squad x2

then 2 rhinos and a razorback, that has done me well, how do you think that will do vs BA?

Power swords defintely. You need to go at the same time he does to take some guys with you and the extra dice for dual wielding doesn't hurt.

But yes the advice above is generally good.

Though personally I'm not a fan of Sternguard.

I like Sternguard just because they have versatility, and have pretty much been the star model in my recent games.

If they work for you they work for you. I hear a lot of people are huge fans I can see the use of them but unfortunately I face a lot of horde armies so they tend to not do great.

They are good at being versatile against low model counts, but unless you rack out points for one hit combi-flamers, and some flamers/heavy flamers, then they're not going to get hordes . . . although I must say, when you put the points into them they sure do cause some serious pain as a last line of defense against hordes that like assault (Orks and Nids)

Just make sure you get the charge off Furious Charge will let him get in the first hits.

Sternguard are one of the best units you have at your disposal. Rapid firing Vengence rounds will take down those Emo Vampires fast. Typhoon Land Speeder are awesome at taking down their armour, cept a Land Raider, those Baals and Preds are all 11 AR on the side and easy to exploit with fast skimmers.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

Don't let them charge you.

If you think about moving toward them to get a shot but will get charged in return, don't do it.

If you have the choice between staying put and shooting or getting charged next turn, don't do it. Keep moving, shoot their rides out from under them and remember. Always remember no matter what.

Don't. Let. Them. Charge. You.

That's all there is, really.

Also, I've had pretty good luck with Dreadnoughts also. Ironclads can put a nice beating on Death Company.

If hes rolling around in light transports de-mech him from afar and and spend all game whittling down his squads as they try to move toward you. Land speeder typhoons, 2x Autocannon dreadnoughts, Las/plas razorbacks and HB/AC predators are all cheap units that can pop transports and put the hurt down on infantry. Throw in a libby with null zone and you will be able to basically ignore invul saves on top of ignoring his FNP with the ap2 and str8 weapons.

The power weapons are a waste of points. If he gets you in assault its game over with or without them the only difference will be how many of his guys you take down before he wipes you out in assault. Its much better to focus on taking him out from afar if you are vanilla SM.

A land raider with TH/SS termies is nice but eats up too many points at the 1000 point level and if he has the tools to deal with them your toast since you only have room for one.

This looks promising. What powers for the Lib what armament for the Stern/Tac? I would suggest 2 PC for Stern and PC/PG for Tac seeing as how your dakka preds should be able to crack his transports. Once they are out of the transports all the AP2 love from the plasma should put his DC down for the count.
