Well...I'm no expert myself, but I won't rate it above 3, for some reasons:

1. The Etheral - he's really not that useful, and even while he's cheap, I think you could use the points somewhere else.
2. No markerlights. While it is said that Tau can work without, I think if possible you should try to get a squad of pathfinders in there. They could prove very useful in negating that KFF save or increasing that BS to 5 against that special target.

Skip the Ethereal and the FW Devilsih, maybe even the Stealth suits...and get a pathfinder squad with mandatory Devilfish, then hand over the Fish to the fire warriors and deploy the Pathfinders directly to have markerlight support from turn 1.

Your XV8 suits are nice, but at 1000pts I'm not sure if you can rely on a single Broadside to take out heavy armour. If you can find the points, maybe add another Broadside? Railguns are arguably the best AT weapons in the game...

I'd drop the Ethereal, cause the fact that half your force may fall back is not worth the Furious Charge your forces gain. Stealth Suits are less versatile than Crisis Suits, and a little too expensive for what they do. However, they can be a good fire magnet the turn they deep strike (at least in my experience) which could allow for more mobility for your other units. The shield gen on the Shas'o should be replaced by two shield drones to increase the amount of wounds he has. Do the same for the Crisis Suits. Other than that, it's pretty much similar to my 1000 pt list. I'd give it a 3/5 right now, the Ethereal being your main problem. Hope this helps.

Man your own jackhammer. Man your battle stations, we'll have you dead pretty soon
Shas'o M'yen Hunter Cadre - 2500 pts (Fully Painted)
Cabal of the Flesh-Eating Shadow -1000 pts (Less than 25%)
Caladanian 85th Armored Company "Leto's Pride" - 1000 pts
The Tainted (Nurgle Marines) - 500 pts

Thanks for the replies.

I presumed the Ethereal was gonna be a problem. I shall take note of the changes yous suggest and rework some of my list.

As is, 2. My recommendations, 4.

As the others stated, toss the ethereal. The Shas doesn't need a BSF.

How are they the same? If it's the same load-out, then they're illegal ... which I can tell by the high cost in points. All three can't have access to wargear, meaning the hwMulti-Tracker. Instead, calculate this out:

XV8 Team Leader, PR/MP/TA hwMT and Bonding
Two XV8s - PR/MP/MT

That's a proper FireKnife unit.

johnscott10 wrote:12 x Fire Warriors – Shas'ui with Bonding Knife and Markerlight, Devilfish with Decoy Launcher and Targeting Array
Replace Decoy Launchers with the DisPod, far more useful. Dump the Target Array as an increase on one Burst Can ain't worth the points. It would be better to run the Warfish: SMS, TA, MT, DisPod.

Toss the FWarrior MarkerLight as you're disembarking and thus moving.

A.s.s. is better, but okay. Definitely upgrade to Team Leader and then get him two Shield Drones, & Bond.

Vre upgrades across the codex are all pretty worthless. They increase the Init and WS stats, but not high enough to make any difference in h2h, which, always, you don't want *any* suits in. Just go with Team Leader and Bond. The points for the BK are worth rallying the b-side and by demoting from 'vre to Team Leader, you spend the same points.

The *only* time a 'vre upgrade should be taken, is when you're hot to get access to a Special Issue piece of wargear.

Which neither the CiBlaster nor AfProjector are all that great.

johnscott10 wrote:I presume this is a decent list to start with, hopefully.
List is a more solid '4' ... I suppose. 3.5 anyway.

A more solid '4' would be to give the second b-side Shield Drones as well.

I'd downgrade the 'o to an 'el: it's 25 points that you pay for 1 BS and 1 ld (the other stats don't really matter) and since you need all the points you can get with this old codex, it's too much.

I'd also, as Witzkatz said, replace the shield gen with a drone. The problem with a shield gen is: what are you going to do when you get hit with missile launchers (ID), hope for the best? With a drone you can assign the wound to the drone and if you fail it you have only lost the drone.

Stealth suits are not great. They can be a fun harassment unit but S5 shots are plentiful in the Tau codex so they don't bring anything new to the table.

Lastly, if you give a ML to the FW, then you might as well give him a TL too so he doesn't have to follow the target of the rest of the team.

Overall, it's a 3.
