I'm trying to find options for building a legal (or semi-legal, even with outdated) rules army including Witchhunters , Space Marines , Adepta Sororitas & Kroot models, in friendly games :

+ + + = ?

My original attempt was to build a Witchhunter army with Space Marine allies, and a contingent of Kroot mercenaries. But it appears that :
- Sororitas and Space Marines can't be fielded together
- Kroot can't be fielded in an army that includes Sororitas or Space Marines .

I was thinking of inventing a house rule that would allow this but impose animosity between the Kroot and the Sororitas or Space Marines if within 6". But I'd like to consider "official" options first.

The army's concept is a mixed force led by an Ordo Sicarius Inquisitor of the radical Xenos Hybris doctrine (cf. Dark Heresy RPG, Disciple of the Dark Gods), trying to unite the various species created by the Old Ones to fight the Necrons. The Inquisitor's retinue would be modeled to include Adeptus Mechanicus , Eldar and Krork (ork) count-as an unlikely alliance of "semi-heretics and xenos" against a common foe, the C'tan.

Any suggestions to make it work in game-rules terms? Thanks!

PS. My question relates to regular WH40K (fragments of this alliance will also serve for Necromunda), not playing Apocalypse, where this would not be an issue.

I don't think there is a way to do what you want legally. That being said, it is an interesting idea. Clear it with your opponents and just follow the normal FOC to restrict the units you can bring. Easy solution to bring a fun list for a fun game.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Here is what I would do to accomplish this. You can field a basic SM force with 1 HQ and 2 Troops. Then ally in the WH and SoB to the force (you are allowed to include the sororitas in this alliance) and then run the Kroot Models as a Counts As - maybe SM scouts with a defect, maybe as Arco Flagellants?

The problem with official rules is that you can't take kroot without having to take some fire warriors. If it's just a friendly game I would suggest just forgetting the force organization and getting whatever figs stuffed in there that you want, apocalypse style.

Retroactively applied infallability is its own reward. I wish I knew this years ago.

I'm both chaotic and orderly. I value my own principles, and am willing to go to extreme lengths to enforce them, often trampling on the very same principles in the process. At best, I'm heroic and principled; at worst, I'm hypocritical and disorderly.

That sounds like a great idea. I would recommend just building your army list and seeing with your opponent. I'm sure none will say no to playing such a themed force in friendly games

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

Thanks for the tip!

For the Kroot, I was considering the "Kroot Mercenary List", not the Tau list.

I think I'll go with calypso2ts' suggestion and make a small Space Marine army (I have space hulk models) with Witch Hunters as allies, and take the Kroot as Stormtroopers (WH) count-as. Although SM scouts might be an interesting idea too (I don't know SM very much, it's the army that interests me the least but I'd like to unite my "leftover models" as a single army against my more numerous armies such as Orks and Chaos...

Thanks all!
