The main issue is that your units are too small. Its really easy to get a panic check from shooting with those numbers.

A hydra at 1000 points is very nearly over the top, and certainly won't make you any friends. For all that... it is pretty darn effective, ain't it?

I would personally drop one of your three infantry blocks and use the points to reinforce the other two and/or get a master BSB. Even if the BSB doesn't have a magic banner, the leadership benefits are well worth the price.

The Hydra at this points level is a really nasty trick, I love it. Even if it doesn't actually kill anything it should have distracted your opponent from the rest of your army.

In my opinion the first thing you should do to improve this army is drop the Witches. This will give you quite a few points to play with.

Then I would do is increase the number of Warriors to 20. This should ensure they last a little longer and more importantly gives you 4 full ranks of 5.

Beyond that it all depends on what direction you want the army to go in. If you want a bit of ranged support add a small regiment (10-12) of Repeater Crossbowmen (you should have enough points left afterwards for a magical banner for the warriors or CoK). If you want more of a combat focus bulk up the Corsairs (again I suggest a minimum of 20) and maybe add some harpies for war machine hunting.

In my opinion Dark Riders are a little bit too expensive for what they do and very vulnerable unless you take them in large numbers. If you want them for their shooting I wouldn't bother, Repearter Crossbowmen or Shades would do a better job.

I personally wouldn't drop the Corsairs, a frenzied regiment of them is potentially very nasty, particularly if you can get them into the flank of the enemy.

Well in a 1000 point list you could quite easily double the size of that cold one unit which would make it a lot nastier. However it would probably mean compromising the army in other areas.

Here's a quick list I've thrown together that does feature 10 Cold One Knights and I've been able to keep the Hydra too.

Heroes:

Sorceress: tome of furion, lvl 2 162pts

Core:

Warriors: x20, shields, full command 155pts

Repeater Crossbowmen: x17, full command 190pts (stick the sorceress here)

Special:

Cold One Knights: x10, full command 310pts

Rare:

War Hydra: 175pts

Total: 992.

Not sure how this would do but it should satisfy your desire for as many Cold Ones as possible and it keeps the wonderfully nasty Hydra too.
