I am thinking about using the spell Transformation of Kadon.
 Is this a good idea?

Should I use the Greater Fire Dragon or Mountain Chimera?

Where can I get models for the Chimera?

I have seen the GW Dragonmaster Dragon but i'm not sure what to use for the Chimera.

It is a good idea, most people do the dragon but thats mainly due to the lack of a proper chimera model, it is the better monter IMO aside for the low LD.

Having been on the receiving end of this spell twice in the same game (Yes I am that bad at my dispel rolls), I'd have to say the Mountain Chimera is absolutely pant wettingly scary to face in CC in comparison to the Greater Dragon. I was even charged in movement by the caster, who then in his magic phase managed to pull off the cast and transformed into the chimera and absolutely crunched my Knights by the time we got to the combat phase.
4d6 Attacks shredded my full Chaos Knight unit, killing 4 and just thanks to luck not completely wiping out the unit.

Having seen the two in play, I'd have to say it'd depend on what you were squaring up against would determine what would be better, say for Horde Armies like Orcs or Skaven the Greater Dragon's Breath attack even for a single turn would probably return greater rewards, whereas fighting a elite unit the Chimera will pay dividends.

									Thanks for the advice.
Does anyone know of a suitable Chimera model?

Pretty sure GW doesn't make one, but it seems like it would be a fun conversion to do.

Check your local craft store , such as a michaels. They sell little toy plastic/rubber creatures. which usually include some fantasy creatures. I bought a dragon and a chimera for 12$ total Just need to base them and repaint them. The chinese child workers do a horrible paint job.

I think the dragon and the chimaera are built to serve different purposes. The chimaera's damage output is just disgusting, but IIRC it has no saves of any sort. For survivability (and remember that your 8-wound monster is really a 2-3 wound wizard underneath) the dragon's 2+ scaly skin is really helpful. Also, the dragon's breath weapon is a bit better. If the enemy unit you need to deal with is a very large number of low-stat models, I'd use the dragon. If, on the other hand, it's monstrous infantry of some sort or certain types of heavy cav (in other words, things that reduce armor saves a lot when they slap you) I'd go with the chimaera and just try to kill whatever it is first.

The same applies to shooting... if you're facing elf archers, bret bowmen, or even something like dwarf guns (high-volume, low-str shooting) take the armor save. If you're facing cannons or other things that ignore armor, go with the glass cannon and hope for the best |
