Hey everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster here at Dakka. I've got about 6-7 games under my belt. I got into 40k about 6 months ago and the SW Codex just came out at the time. Well..I like Wolves, so this was a draw to me, I looked at the fluff and decided that was a damn cool army. Anyways, I've been playing at my FLGS the last few weeks and while I have yet to play a DE army, from what I see they're a pretty predictable, but nasty force. Inevitably, I will locked in combat with such a player so I was wondering....

Any special tactics a Wolf should execute vs the Dark Eldar? Is there a focus I should settle on? Shooting or meet the DE fist with an even bigger fist in assault?

Thanks guys!

People are always worried about dark eldar this and dark eldar that. Dark eldars can own your ass, but that is only because you come badly prepeared, and sadly to say for the DE the SW are some some of the best to deal with this flying menace.

He will have loads of lances. Loads and loads. Expet all mech to die during the game.

They will be mobile, eather with web gates (slim chance) or with loads of fast ass kicking easaly killed units. Take 2 groups of long fangs, loads of missile launchers. Get a WG in there to soak up a wound. Lances are not good vs lone models. If you have loads of mech take out his lance wagons. If you dont have mutch mec then take down his tanks with people in it.

Slam him down hard, and he will not get up. Let him run around strutting and he will laugh at you and own you bigtime. Do not run after him on foot, worst idea ever.

PS: If you got drop pods, then the once ariving in the second wave (where he eather has ovned you, or you have owned him) the dreads can land down because then some of the mobile lances are gone. Get him into mellee and you will have a field day.

PS2: His lord will be a pain in the ass. Tarpit him and cross your fingers. If you have a thunderwolf lord, keep him away if his lord is kittet for MC killing.

As a Dark Eldar player myself. I agree on not going toe to toe with Dark Eldar. If they get into combat with a lord + retinue that hasn't suffered damage already they can really cause damage with high initiative and gear. You'll need some shooty aspects to soften them up then mop them up in later turns. Dark Eldar are great for speed, medium to close range fire-power and close combat. But are vulnerable to shooting. Shoot down transports, split up units working in tandem and knock them down to size so you can sweep through them.

I have not played them myself but I spent a lott of time stydeing the codex wondering if I should start with them.

fighting the dark eldar is pointless if you don't have a list that has a long reach in inches. You dont have to tailor your list to be a dark eldar counter, but if you don't have the reach you dont have anything to bring to the battle.
