... armed with spear a shield, what would you do?

Start a Tomb Kings Army, or a VC army? I'm a complete newb at Fantasy, so I don't know which army is more effective, and what their play styles are like under 8th ed.

Tomb Kings are still terrible and need revision.

Vampire Counts are still "top tier" and got a book recently.

With that many skeletons.... it might just be easy enough to add a command model or two, and proxy a special unit here and there for BOTH armies, and then see which one you like playing more.

Youd have 225 models with the stats of skaven slaves and 4x (5x if you add spears and command) the cost that crumble to dust while the other is LD10 steadfast with BSB. Amazing how overcosted they are once fear was nerfed

In other words theyre terrible

i would play VCs.

because they can make units bigger then they were initially you might actually use all those models.

even though crumble is a problem, when they are in Horde formation they are quite good.

So TK skellies are no good? I've never played against TK, although I don't know if they're the best troop choice for VC anymore. I think they're decent, although it'd be nice to have some ghouls if you go VC.

If you go TK, any chance you could convert some of them to have bows?

TK skellies with bows are good, but other then that they are overpriced.

they are an old codex and suffer for that.

GW tends to drop the points cost of things in their quest for you to buy more models. older codexs therefore tend to fall behind as they pay more for less utility, but a new book will fix that. the same applies to 40k too

Well if nothing else, TK must be on the horizon somewhere for a book (for fantasy, in the next 2-3, right? Right!?1!1?). So even if you don't like either army atm after proxying / trying them out, I'd hold onto those skellies for another year or two!

You might end up having models for the new hawtness in the not-so-distant future

TK won't be an old codex for long....so if you are patient hold on to the thought....

Speaking from experience, you won't get a good price for that many repeat OOP models. I sold something like 200 oop high elf spearmen (the kind with only a single pose, very, very static) and got almost nothing back for them. I wish I'd kept them instead!

So I'd hang onto them and hope skellies turn out to be good in the new TK book, whenver it hits! Or use 'em for vamps right now...
