Over the Cuckoos Nest

Hello,

I'm new to 40k and just started building my first army. I bought AOBR to start with, and am in the process of modifying most of the SM figures.

Sorry for the bad photos, my cellphone is dying a slow death and the camera's starting to suck.

First of the Dreadnaught CCW which I'm adding onto to make the fingers longer. I just glued the first extension on a few minutes ago, and am happy with the results.

I carefully cut the mechanical arm off the Tactical Squads Missile Launcher marine. I want to cut the arm apart and pose it like it's grabbing the next missile.

I scavenged this ork chainsword, and am converting this Terminator Powerfist into a Chainfist. Sorry I know this pic is really bad.

That's all I have to show for now. The rest is all cut up waiting to be pinned. I know that some of the things I'm trying to do will be challenging for a new modeller, But what can I say, I'm stubborn and a little bit crazy.

I relish any advice or criticism.

Your chainsword conversion is simple and effective.

Good job man.

I fought for the Glory of the Emperor, I saw my mates die on the line. Did he say anything, not a frakking thing.

The picture are very clear but not very bright, if you place the pieces on a sheet of A4 white paper you'll find they will have better contrast.
Don't worry the madder the better around these parts for trying stuff.
The ccw is looking good, have you thought about which army list you want to play/build as this will help you come up with some themed conversions.
Looking forward to more.

@petty3: Thank you, I thought it fit with the Terminator theme of oversized equipment.

@Lennysmash: I did my photos over a sheet of white paper, and it helped. Thanks.
As for Army lists, let me tell you what I have and maybe you can give me some advice.

AOBR Box
- 10 Tactical
- 5 Termies
- 1 Dreadnaught
- 1 Commander
5 Scouts with Sniper Rifles
1 Ironclad Dread

I think I want a shooty army, but I'd like to put some assault units in there. Idk, I a complete newb to 40k, so I welcome any advice.

On to the update:

I finshed the CCW. Might still add a few small bits to the elbow/shoulder, but nothing major.

Here's a armor plate I'm making to cover the cables next to the sarcophagus. It doesn't look as good in the picture, cause I couldn't hold it in place correctly and operation my camera phone. It's made from the landing strut of a AOBR Deffkopta.

It just makes sense to me that you would want those cables better protected, plus it adds a different angle to the flattish front of the Dread, but isn't to crazy.

Anyway thats all for now. I have tomorrow off from work, so I'm going to try to get a lot done.

I would run a 'vanilla' list for now then given what you have. Vanilla just means a standard marine army no special rules.

The dreads you have at the moment are geared towards close combat so it might be an idea to make a devastator squad your next purchase. That would round out your army a little more for when it comes to shootiness (new word).

For more advice though I would start a thread on the army list forums, the guys over there live the lists so will be able to offer a far better analysis of what you need.

Awsome beginings.

You can never go wrong with a few Predators, cheap and super effective.

If you havent already glued the arms onto your AOBR dread, you can always use them as awsome shoting platforms. They are my favortie way to bring heavy weapons to the table.

A bit of advice to help lining stuff up is to get some Blue Tac or equivalent. It's the sticky stuff you use to hold posters on the wall. I bought a package of it for about a buck at Wal-Mart in the office supply area. It goes on easy and comes off just as easily, meaning no residue to clean up or gunk to scrape off.

Looking forward to see more!
