As "Let Me In" is a US remake we sought out the original Swede film as I find originals are often better.

Its viewed as quite good.

However neither I nor She Who Must Be Obeyed were particularly impressed. It was a slow moving Euro film with a film bit of a vampire bit. A coupkle of seens were decent, but ther rest was kind of . We couldn't figure out why this has buzz.

Protip, if you have bullies in film, make the bullies look like bullies and not what we would have viewed as prey in school.

A European film that is slow moving (in comparison to Tony Scott's 3 seconds than jump cut for 2 hours)? I am shocked. Just shocked.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

For awhile my brother was insisting I watch Let The Right One In but I never got around to it. He's quite taken by it.

My only real question of the film:
Spoiler:
Is Oskar (the kid) the next Dad type who will grow older taking care of Elle?

Yes, it has exactly the same plot (sort of) as The Hunger.

sometimes not have the camera jolt around and cut every few seconds, i can guess like many remakes of international films they will focus on the wrong think, making it a vamp flick instead of a personal drama involving a vamp. The special effects maybe good to look at for the few seconds they are on but all the heart and soul of the original will be lost (the also goes with most sequels, just look at jaws 2).

They're also planning to remake Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which is also Swedish, also 'a bit grim' and also very good.

I have no desire to watch US remakes of either film.

I think I may have made a mistake by watching it with english audio - I thought it was only OK, but I think a lot of that was due to the very poor voice-acting.

Also, there were parts missing from the book - but that's to be expected I suppose.

two lines of thought either the spoiler or the growing a heart version, depends how you veiw immortals

i read the book first, then watched the movie liked both, movies don't have to move a mile a minute to be interesting. worst thing is that they are cutting down
on more of the story.

i must say i don't really like american remakes especially 'the prisoner' one

I quite liked the movie.

The american remake seems to be taking a different style completely from the trailer, and I'm guessing its going to be further from the book than the Swedish one.

The Books/Swedish movies of the Millenium Trilogy (Girl with the Dragon Tatoo etc) are quite good, although the author was quite clearly putting alot of his own desires into the main character...that guy gets laid. Alot. Nearly every female character either sleeps with him or mentions how attractive he is.

Oskar wasn't near as creepy as in the book.

I was lead to believe that Oskar and Eli's relationship was going to be much more healthy (as healthy as it could get) - no creepy pedobear action, just a child and an eternal child.

@del - could be that darned sparkly vampire nonsense. I'll take Pippi Vengeancestockings any day.

I really liked the bit where they find the body in the ice, and then later where they're cut it out of the ice and carrying it away in the background. It's a great little film.

Oh I didn't mean to imply it didn't look good.

I think it looks fantastic, but alot more directed toward the target audience.

Spoiler:
Im also guessing that Eli wont be of ambigious gender from the trailer, it looks like shes actually a girl, rather than a boy who looks like a girl

According to the Toronto Film Festival review of Let Me In (the US remake):

What was once in Swedish is now available in English. There are two ways to look at Reeves’ uncanny remake of the moody cult horror/emo film Let The Right One In: 1. It’s a faithful adaptation, honoring the story nearly to the letter and retaining the slow, methodical tone (and bursts of ultra-violence) of the original, which sets it apart from Twilight or the shock-filled American horror films of the day. There’s no question Let Me In will see many more eyes this time around, and it’s still an intelligent, gratifyingly ambiguous twist on the genre. 2. However, Let The Right One In still exists. There are prints in circulation, the negative is presumably intact, and you can find it anywhere on DVD (albeit with possibly fethed-up subtitles).

As for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the one thing I can't understand about the remake is that is using the same setting. I would have thought they would have set it in Upper New York or something along those lines with American characters, but they aren't. It takes place in Sweden still and the characters are still supposed to be Swedish, just now speaking in English. That just seems an odd choice.

Lets be honest, the only reason they are making the Millenium movies is because the books are now wildly popular (in Aus and I'm assuming US/UK) and most people arent aware of the Swedish films.

That said, Daniel Craig looks to be well cast as Blomkvist, and is from a solid director (David Fincher - Fight Club, Se7en and various others) so I'm expecting them to be pretty good.

Let the Right One in is something of a cult hit, I haven't actually read the book yet, but it's been recommended to me by a few people whose opinions I trust, and I enjoyed the Swedish film.
The American version looks to be high quality, and I like the choice of actress for Eli (She wass awesome as hit girl in Kick Ass)

Let the right one in is the best Swedish movie I hav ever seen. Does that mean it's good by international standards? Maybe.

However, I guess it's a lot funnier to watch movies without subtitles. What bothers me is that the movie wasn't very popular amongst Swedish people,
and certainly not popular amongst teenagers.

As for the Millenium-trilogy, it's become the biggest success since Wallander. When I worked in a videostore during the summer, they sold LOTS of those.

Strangely, they're doing a british remake of Wallander too. Funny how Hollywood and others like to buy Swedish ideas
