While browsing around at my FLGS over the weekend, I saw that the Skorne: Nihilators are out. Should I bother getting these guys or stick to my ol' reliable Praetorian Swordsmen? I do not yet own the "Forces of HORDES: Skorne" book yet and the store was sold out, so I couldn't browse.

Do Nihilators fill a different role than the Swordsmen?

i think the merit of a MIN unit is good on a flank, or a full unit up front. they have berserk so they can end enemy units pretty fast, but watch your spacing because they can easily hack themselves to pices if you place them wrong, since they have reach.

if i was a skorne player i would buy a unit.

There ain't nearly enough Salvage in this thread!

As I've heard a min. unit is where it's at with them due to two things that really boil down to one thing:

Low command means bunching up... bunching up means hacking each other up.

So, min size allows them more breathing room to advance in a sort of 2 rows of 3 spacing to get the most out of them without killing each other.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I've been thinking about these guys. The only thing I can think of making them worthwhile is to add them into a Mordikaar list, put Hollow on them, and charge them forward to do as much damage as possible before dying. Also, Rasheth's Carnivore gives them an effective MAT of 9... That might be cool...

Pretty much everyone gives them something worthwhile. Makeda and Xerxis can give them better defense, Rasheth can stop berserk with Carnivore, Death March from Hexeris gives them better MAT and Vengeance, Zaal's feat just makes them sick... The list goes on.

As for dealing with them killing each other, it's really a matter of practice. After playing eButch doomie spam without UAs for a couple months, keeping models from slaughtering each other isn't really an issue for me anymore.

Personally, I'd probably take them over Praetorians. The higher PnS and reach are wonderful, and Berserk will let them kill as many (if not more) targets than Praetorians w/ UA. I'll basically be treating them as Doom Reavers, as while they lack Weapon Master, the ability to target them with spells makes up for it IMO.
