Should Space Marine Scouts get Shotguns or Bolters Pistol+ CC Weapon? Shotguns have an extra shot in shooting which hits on 3s and is subject to cover while bolt pistol and cc weapon gives you an extra close combat attack which helps with combat res however with scout bad weapon skill you probably hit on 4s.

Scout Sarge will get a shotgun and a powerfist because extra cc weapon does not give his fist an extra attack so he might as well get the extra shot.

I prefer BP and CCW as long as I can attack in CC. But Shotties arent bad against anything with a +4 or better armor save and things with a high WS

The problem with shotguns is not only do you give up the ability to well in assault, while also potentially shooting too well and have your opponent combat tactics away, or just pull all the models in assault range. If you want the get stuck in, don't hurt your chances to get into CC and the ability to do well there.

Since CC bad things can happen (though with marines not as bad as losing the squad to sweeping advance) having the attacks is usually better than having the shots. If you want to shoot, there is the option to take bolters instead, which has an AP that occasionally matters, and a range that can often fire longer than 12 inches.

I take BP/CCW with my scouts but I mount mine in a Land Speeder Storm so they will be assaulting, hopefully, turn 1 so the shoty isn't as useful. It really depends on how you are deploying them I am not a fan of the shotgun in most situations.

I'd say in general, BP/CCW for the normal troopers.

Less chance of shooting yourself out of assault range.
Less chance of getting crushed in a prolonged 2-3 turn combat.

BP/CCW anytime. You get a normal shot w/ ap 5 (Hits 1/2 of the time), and a bonus attack. Shotgun: 2 shots (1 hits) , no AP, and no bonus attack. The shotgun will give you twice as many hits, so twice as many wounds, but against the hordes its meant for, they still get saves. Tough decision, no? TAKE THE BOLT PISTOL.

I'd take a bolt pistol by itself over a shotgun.
