i played on an all imperial guard side VS csm nurgle and nurgle daemons and got my ass handed to me...
he had epidemus and as soon as he got his precious 20 kill suddenly the plauge marines were unbeatable with poison bolters that wound on 2+.. my infantry got swatted like flies and my heavy weapons batteries got sent to kingdom come...
then the daemon player sent hit units into CC with my vehicles.. game over...

HOW DO YOU BEAT THAT! epidemus was all the way in the back behind a rhino holding an objective, in terain and surrounded by bases with heaps of wounds...

1) Focus kill the Tallymaster and make it a priority. Frankly it shouldn't be too difficult with Vendettas or artillery being able to target him early on. Just bring AP2 weapons to punch through his FnP save and start stacking wounds.

2) BattleCannons and most other ordnance will wound on 2's and deny the PM their FnP save. Anything AP2 or S10 will deny the Plaguebearers theirs. Either way, you just hit them with as much S7 plus weaponry. Plaguebearers aren't very scary at all, they're only good at holding objectives.

3) The biggest threat to your army is probably Daemon Princes, especially winged ones. The good news is that they are only 3+/5++ at best and thats expensive plus they can't get FnP. This means you should just spam them with S6+ firepower at range, which again, IG has alot of.

Try to mech up, that will protect you agains the little guy's attacks and help outrun the slow stuff.

Well, what your opponents doing was technically illegal. One armies special rules do not overlap to the other, unless you have agreed to beforehand. It is because of situations like you mentioned that this is the precedent.

Epidemius's Tally specifically affects all followers of Nurgle on the table regardless of who is playing them.

dont own any vendetta/vakyrie but i could try taking him on using artillery and marbo might work..
and i gess more mech is a must, i play an infantry baced army with lots of autocannon teams so i gess i need to buy some tanks

and yeah daemon princes was a pain, they had 3 of them, 2 with wings. i did take down one the first round with autocannons but then the plauge father tossed a big heap of gak on my men..

more plasma to perhaps, or even a fully plasma Russ Exterminator?

Epidemius does allow anything nurgle on the table to benefit from the increased tally, where appropriate. But if things were quite how you said you might have been cheated slightly. Bolters should have been acting as normal for rolling to wound, the 2+ to wound is that all nurgle models get a 2+ poisoned attack in close combat. Shooting doesn't qualify for that. Shooting does qualify for the no armor save for having the tally over 20 though, per the FAQ.

As for your heavy weapon batteries being hit first, thats smart playing on the opponents part. Taking out your ability to deny him FNP is just smart. As was his defensive play to protect the ability. Try artillery there first.

:O that should be a standar 3+ to wound then, not 2+... that makes up for a few men in an infantry baced army :( will lay that on him at least

Not a standard, unless their in CC. Outside of CC when the tally is up there, it's based off the usual S/T difference. But at 20+ there are no armor saves. It doesn't affect tank armor though, so staying inside tanks is a good idea...

followers of nurgle all have 1 thing in common that makes them wicked annoying: Feel No Pain. If you take that away, with a gun thats ap 1 or 2 or thats double their toughness, or with a power weapon, nurgle stuff guys turn into overpriced crap. This is especially true against marines since their armor save goes out the window too against 90% of that stuff. Nurgle is also not that big on power weapons so in close combat what you want are terminators and meqs with power weapons, at range plasma guns, battle cannons, etc. Guard have an artillary piece that takes away cover. It's really ideal for killing nurgle marines. Basically once their feel no pain goes away you just want to play attrition with them, because you'll probably outnumber them. Dont rely on flame throwers or massed lasguns or any other kind of attacks that rely on volume rather than quality of fire to win. You have to roll an absurd number of dice with lasguns, for instance, to reliably kill even a handful of plague marines. Don't even try it it won't work.

I think that's actually a very lucky roll. If my math is correct, you killed about 3x the expected number!

Adding onto AF's good comments, remember that almost all of their units will also have T5. This means you're wounding on 6's with those Lasguns and even your Power Weapons. Its very hard to win a war of attrition when you have a 1/12 chance of hitting and wounding the target.
