Hey guys,
Just asking because I've never been to a GW store where a friend hasn't introduced me or pulled me into a game my first time, I've gone alone before but always after meeting people there.
So I'm just asking, how, when I walk into GW Reading, do I get a game with my DAs?
Will I need to get there before 12 to find a game? 'Cos waking up on time'll be hard...

Talk to the manager, Henners. I don't know any other gamers in Manchester, so I went to the shop to see about getting a few pick-up games - 'my' shop has intermediate/experienced-level games on weeknights for both WHFB and 40K, and beginners games on sunday.. They usually do events on saturdays, but you'll probably get a game then too. Just ask a member of staff about game-nights - they'll probably get you to put your name down in the book.
At our place they draw opponents at random. It can be a good laugh, you get to meet new people and play new and interestingly-painted Space Marines!
Nah, it's not quite THAT bad, but you will find a lot of Space Marine players.

A'ight, unfortunately I failed to get up on time today... I'll give the store a call and ask if they have any events going down (preferably after noon...)

Just bring your army with a standard size (1k/1.5k/1.75k...) and ask around "Hey, anyone want a 40k game? I have x points of DA"

Reading yeah! RG5 Boi!
Ermm... yeah last time/ only time i've ever played in there was when they were in the old location, (literaly ~200 yards away) I went into one of there events some lotr thing if i remember. Any way going to some event or another is probably the best way to get to know the regulars. The staff there are to the best of my knowledge quite acomodating, but allas its been a while.

It's a lot easier than you think. Just call the store ahead of time, and let them know you're interested in coming down for a game. I can't imagine any FLGS that would turn away another gamer, especially one that would help support the store.
What I've done is basically ask when the most likely time other gamers would be around for a pickup game, and just stop by then. Be friendly, cordial, and polite, and you shouldn't have any issues.
Good luck!

Just call and ask what they're gaming schedule is like, and how pick-up games work thereabouts.

Seriously, just talk to people. You don't have to impress anyone, just talk to people. Chit chat and be comfortable then work your way in. You'll be among friends largely I'm sure with a few d-bags thrown in, but no way to know til you try.

This. When I visit a store new to me, I just walk in and put my case(s) on the table, stand-by, and make idle chit-chat with various people until I find someone who wants to play. 100% success rate.
And to Little Lord Fauntleroy, I have to issue a giant "feth you" to your sig....

Don't know about there, but the GW stores around here run a sign up list for the tables. You want to play, you sign up. Simple as that.
